Christmas Cake question and tips please.

This year I decided to take the plunge and finally make my very own Christmas Cake. I used a receipe from 1971 of my Nana's that my mum copied down for me.
So I bought all the ingredients and realised when I got home that I probablt had enough for 2 cakes and so challenged my husband to a xmas cake making competition.
The loser has to wash the Christmas Day pots
So last weekend we made out cakes, fed then with brandy etc and now they are wrapped up waiting to be fed again (just like the kids, lol)
Anyway, I went to my mums today and she showed me the receipe and as I was reading it I noticed it should have had treacle in it. This was not on the receipe I copied.
So, have I completely messed up by not adding treacle and will the cake still last until xmas?
And any tips to help me beat hubby :rotfl:
Thanks

How much treacle was needed ? I'm guessing a couple of tbsp ? If so I don't think it will matter much. I've made fruit cakes that last well without treacle especially if they have lots of booze in them0

Yes, I think it was only a couple of tbsp's. Hopefully it will last.
The only difference bewteen out cakes so far are that mine has Lurpak unalted and Napolean Brandy in and his has Country Life unsalted and a cheap brandy it (although I doubt that will matter much).
More tips needed, I MUST win this challenge :rotfl:0 -
It'll be a draw. You can wash and he can dry!Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Hi,
This is not a disaster. The main reason for adding black treacle in a christmas cake recipe is for colour. You will find that the colour of your cake may not be the rich dark brown colour we associate with christmas cake. You may find your cake will be a little less moist too, but if you feed it well this may not be a problem...ummmm brandy..yum...lol :xmassmile
I hope this helps and you cake tastes fab at christmas.A penny saved is a penny earned
