Farm Shop shopping
It was my first visit to a farm shop yesterday , I told my Mum the prices I paid and she thinks I was ripped off, but she buys very cheap (but fatty) stuff from the Market in Town. I paid £4.40/kg for Stew beef (which was steak cut up- I saw him taking it and cutting it up), Diced Pork was £3.30/KG and I got a Brisket for…

Cooking pasta? save time & money
(Hope this hasn't been a thread previously...if so Sorry :cheesy:) If you are planning to have a pasta based meal - soak it in cold water for 1 hour before cooking. It will become rehydrated and will only need cooking for two minutes rather than the usual 12 minutes. Tastes just as good! Saving time and gas/electric :T

Help cutting the budget
Okay, we've tried and the lowest we can get the food budget to is £100 per week. This is for (basically) four adults. The problem is, father and brother eat pretty much anything as long as it is meat. Mother is on Weight Watchers, doesn't like ready meals but eats anything healthy. I am allergic to cow's milk (which causes…

Broccoli Blues - what to do with the stalks?
One of the few 'green' veggies that my kids will eat, is Broccoli..so we have quite a bit of it. But, whenever i buy it, i end up cutting off this HUGE stalk and sticking it on the compost..seems a dreadful waste....and i'm sure that the greengrocers like to leave the maximum length, so the extra weight also has to be paid…
