Cooking pasta? save time & money

(Hope this hasn't been a thread previously...if so Sorry :cheesy:)

If you are planning to have a pasta based meal - soak it in cold water for 1 hour before cooking.
It will become rehydrated and will only need cooking for two minutes rather than the usual 12 minutes. Tastes just as good!

Saving time and gas/electric :T

  • Does this work with rice too? I think that if it does it will need soaking for a lot longer, but I've never tried it to be honest. :D

Simple but good idea. I'll try it.

I also turn off the cooker 3-4 minutes before I think something's going to be cooked since the cooker stays hot enough.
In the winter though, I can treat the cooker as house heating too I suppose.

  • I always soak rice for about an hour before I cook it, and it certainly cuts down on the cooking time for brown rice particularly
