Tyne & Wear Farm shops

Options
Does anyone have any experience of farm shops up here?

I've done a quick search and can only find one in Gosforth Park. I'm suprised that I can only find one tbh.

Does anyone use the farm shops around here for potatoes meat etc etc or does anyone know anywhere else around Tyne & Wear. I'd like to try some out after reading some successes on here....

Thanks

I'm usually working on a Friday but will try to get into the market.

    Thanks Gabriel
I'll give them a try. How much are in the 'bags' - How many bananas for example do you get in the 2-4 people bags??

Well the last bag had 3 bananas. It also came with a small galia melon, 8 figs (wonderful!), a large pack of grapes, 2 kiwis, about 0.5 kg of plums and a few greengages, 2 apples and a large mango. It's a nice variety.

You can choose up to two items you don't like and they'll replace them with something else. They also publish the contents for next week's bag on their website Thursday evening.

There's Brockbushes Farm Shop on the A69 - just at the Stagshaw roundabout. They do all the PYO fruit, breads, frozen vegs, wide range of fresh veg including the lovely Heritage range from Tiptree farm and assorted loads of other stuff.

Click on this for the website

For meat there is the fabulous North Acomb Farm Shop, just before Brockbushes. They have their own meat and it tastes fantastic - can't beat it. They'll cut any size you want as the farmer does it all himself. If you can stand parking next to a stable of pigs or lambs and then buying the meat in the tiny shop then this is the place for you - I never buy supermarket meat any more.

And here's the link to North Acomb

    Hope this helps.

Durham farmers market is on the 3rd Thursday each month, in the city centre market place (outside Boots). The Broomhouse Farm meat is lovely - their steaks are fantastic! Don't know if that is too far to travel, but I thought I'd mention it.

OH said we could make a trip over Corbridge way to try out Brockbushes, still thinking about the meat one - I don't eat too much meat and OH isn't fussed by stuff like this so I'll give it a go too.

    Thanks Becles
Durham isn't far from me at all so will try to get in there too.

Why are all the market on week days - are you not allowed to work and go out money saving OS!!! :rotfl:

PS - great result on Monday, my first match of the season and a great one it was ;)
