Online Car Insurance Quotes
Have been searching thru the various compare insuarance quotes. They all seem to be online these days. The trouble is, if you want to ask a question regarding your details on the quote, you probably loose your discount for doing it online. ie my best quote came up on Swift Online. But there isnt a help number. I need to…

Cheap luxobarge - maybe veg oil - suggestions?
As I've said on another thread I feel it it time I sold my rover and bought a proper car. :p I want a luxobarge of some description, but not too ridiculous due to insurance, so no XJs/7 series/S classes please! :D Ideally I'd like it to run on veg oil too, with as little tweaking as possible (though I know this possibly is…

Car written off - value?
On 29th June I was hit by a driver entering the main road from a side junction. I was on the main road, and she came from a junction on my left trying to turn right (therefore having to cross my path). As I approached, she continued through the junction and give way sign. I didn't have the distance to stop, so I braked and…

mini bike riding course
My nephew bought a mini bike for £50 and fixed it up (needed a new starter motor and new inner tube) Now he's facing the problem of where to ride it. It's now illegal to ride thesse bikes on public roads, and it's a shame to not be able to ride it after fixing it up, so IO was wondering if there was some sort of course…

Fronting - how to prove it
I recently got hit by a 17 year old boy racer. The damage to my car will probably be about £200 (bumper damage) and his £400. At the scene he admitted liability and then he back tracked saying it was me who hit him. I am guessing with no witnesses it could well be 50:50 and I'll lose my £500 excess but in my eyes it was…

Advice for choice between new and used golf
Hi, I am just after some advice which isn't from a deal and is informed (more so than me :) ) I have decided to buy a Golf 1.4 TSI Match. I am happy with new (except the possible losses) or with a 1/2 year old used car. The dealer recommends new to get the most from the warranty and services. The New Car RRP is 19,260.…

Squeaky clutch on 55 Mondeo
Hi all I'm hoping this is a cheap/easy fix. I've got a 55-plate Mondeo diesel without around 110k on the clock. I've notice that if I push the clutch pedal to the floor, there's a continuous squeak up to the biting point and then it goes away (you can hear it better with the door open). It drives fine with no judders/other…

Network Q warranty (Astra) - does it cover window switches/ cabling ?
The offside rear window has stopped working. Doesn't work from rear seat or driver's seat. Googling brings up common wiring break as most likely reason. Main dealer want £48 plus VAT to check, refundable if covered by the warranty. I don't like this as all I can see it can be is wiring, switch, fuse or motor. Fuse should…

Business Fuel Account?
I work for a small council and our local independent garage will no longer be selling petrol in a few months time. We have always had a monthly fuel account with them and I'm now faced with finding an alternative supplier for our small fleet of 4 vehicles. We'll now be at the mercy of the big boys and are not in a position…

is it illegal to obscure review with large boot load?
I want to bid for a piece of furniture on ebay, but only if I can pick it up myself from 40 miles away. I have measured by boot (Ford Ka) and the item would stick out about 20" out the back, at an upward angle, which would probably obscure my view from my rear view mirror. Is it ok to drive like this or is it illegal…

Penalty points?
I got 6 penalty points back in 2009... Three questions: 1) When do the points disappear (i.e. have no effect on my car insurance)? 2) Do the points get halved - i.e. go down to three points after three years? 3) When getting car insurance quotes do I put the date of conviction or date of offence?

Wife just passed - cheapest insurance
So my wife just passed her test. I have a cheap banger I want to get her insured on so she can do her local driving. As I have been insured and driving for almost ten years now my questions are: 1) Is it legal for me to take out a second car insurance policy (perhaps with a different company). I.e: - i register the second…

Strange noise from car when turning...
Hi I have a 2002 Peugeot 106, which has been making some strange noises for a couple of months now. The noise itself seems to come from the engine bay, I can't be much more specific than that! When I am turning a periodic knocking and squeaking and rattling noise is heard which is worse the faster and sharper the turn. So…

Which tyres for reduced road noise?
After some opinions on which brand(s) is likely to give me less road noise. My Mk3 Mondeo is notorious for road noise when budget brands are used and mixed. (All the bearings and hubs have been checked and are fine which I'd normally assume is giving the whiney noise over 50mph so putting it down to tyre choice) Can anyone…

Rubbing/grinding noise under braking/turning after tyre change
My OH had the two front tyres changed on her Peugeot 206 this afternoon and has now noticed that there is a rubbing/grinding noise whilst turning right and braking. I took it out and there is a definite noise from the right wheel. My first thought was that it was catching the metal mount that holds the mud guard as this is…
