Penalty points?

I got 6 penalty points back in 2009... Three questions:
1) When do the points disappear (i.e. have no effect on my car insurance)?
2) Do the points get halved - i.e. go down to three points after three years?
3) When getting car insurance quotes do I put the date of conviction or date of offence?

They stay on there for 4 yrs but are only active for 3, i think personally that's because if you get pulled over by the police say in your 3rd year they can point out that you already had points on your license so you should know better ( na na na na na ) etc ( but that's just my personal opinion )
The date you put on your insurance is the date you were actually convicted because that's when they come into affect.
And no they don't get halved just come straight off after 4 years. :cool:0 -
6 points at once?
You may find insurance companies ask about the last 5 years.0 -

In that case can I request for them to be removed after the third or fourth year?

You can have them removed from your licence four years after the offence.
However you have to declare them to insurers for 5 years from the date of conviction, which is the amount of time it takes the conviction to become "spent" under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (assuming you gos a fine for it in addition to the points).0 -

Depends on the offence.2) Do the points get halved - i.e. go down to three points after three years?
NO.3) When getting car insurance quotes do I put the date of conviction or date of offence?

SP40, 3 points, £60 fine originally. But then i disputed it, went to court and they changed it to 6 points and a £290 fine.

OK. SP40 is 4 years from date of offence.
Will need to be declared to insurance company for (usually) 5 years.0
