Squeaky clutch on 55 Mondeo

Hi all

I'm hoping this is a cheap/easy fix.
I've got a 55-plate Mondeo diesel without around 110k on the clock.
I've notice that if I push the clutch pedal to the floor, there's a continuous squeak up to the biting point and then it goes away (you can hear it better with the door open).

It drives fine with no judders/other problems.

Anyone any ideas?

If it helps, it a 2L TDCI (I think).

Its a hydraulic clutch, have you driven through any puddles or floods.
Probably needs some grease on the actuator

Release bearing will make a squealing noise. The dual mass flywheel will rumble and sound like a bag of spanners being shaken when its gone.

Either way. Its a gearbox off job. And its best to replace everything in one go otherwise you will end up paying the labour charges again to do the next bit that fails.

New clutch kit, Slave/Bearing (one unit) and a new dual mass flywheel is around £800 - £1200.. £1200 from a main dealer.

Labour charge is a fair chunk of those figures. So paying £200 - £300 labour to replace a bearing then paying that again possibly weeks or months later wont be moneysaving.

I have the same car and if the DMF hasn't previously been replaced then I'd say 110k is about the time it will start to fail.

Your symptoms sound the same when my DMF was replaced for a second time, on 185k.

I know a mechanic so got it done for £650 all in, bought the DMF kit from euro car parts for about £400.

Not blaming whoever sold it to you but they may have been wised up to sell on a Mondeo at 110k rather than hang on to it with an inevitable big bill not far off.

Equally, I was fortunate to have a clued up mate who checked over the Mondy I was buying at about 120k where we found out the DMF had previously been replaced.

Really don't like the sound of that.
Is it easy to check if the DMF is on it's way out or has been replaced?

Best wait for forgetmyname to answer as he's seems clued up.

I only found out the DMF was replaced because the chap said so and showed receipts. A mechy who knows Mondys will know if the DMF needs replacing.

From what I gather the DMF will always eventually go on your car and the miles done seem about that time unfortunately.

However, shop around for a price as it can vary greatly, I got it done for about half what others may pay if they don't look around.

They are great cars though and are generally solid.
