Hot water systems
We are currently heating a whole copper tank of water day and night with an immersion heater. I think it must be cheaper to get rid of the tank and the overhead cold water tank and just use instant water heaters. Where do we start? Does anyone else use instant heaters or any other system that would be cheaper? I should…

Do I need a hearth?
Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me out and let me know if I need to get a bigger hearth? As the fireplace is already raised (bricks as the base) do I need anything further to place my fire basket onto before I start having open fires? There is a heart that juts out (as you can see in the attached photo) but I can't…

fridge door squeaks
The fridge door squeaks when you open it. I know it is the seal rubbing against the unit. When I wet the seal the noise decreased. What can I rub on the seal to lubricate it. Was thinking of smearing wd40. any advice?

What planning consent do i need?
Just spend nearly an hour getting thoroughly nowhere on my local council planning section. I have a large downstairs utility room that I want to split into a bathroom / smaller utility. This would involve constructing a partition wall. My house is listed, but I intend to install a show cabinet (so no wall tiling) and a…

Advice. Electrician quotes
Hi there. Really hoping someone can give us a little advice. We've had a quote from an electrician and don't want to get stung. Does anyone know roughly what an electrician would charge to do the following 6mm wire from the fuse box for an induction hob (and new switch) and outlet. Cooker requires a new switch and outlet.…

My neighbour believes there is a crack in the party wall
A few months ago, the neighbour of my rental property contacted me and said that she could hear normal sounds (eg the tap running) through the wall more loudly than before. My tenant said that she could hear similar noises. My neighbour said that she had been told that this was caused by a crack. There is nothing visible…

Cheap curtains
Any ideas on where to find the best value curtains? I'd like them to be fairly thick as they are to be hung in front of a single pain glass outside door to reduce heat loss in the house. It would need to be around 7 feet long by around 6 feet wide.

Painting emulsion over gloss
My son decorated our bathroom and left masking tape on the ceiling for too long. Consequently, the paint came off with the tape. I sanded the bare areas today and he painted it later. I have just noticed that he has painted the bare bits with white gloss instead of emulsion! Help! What can I do about this?

Homebase Half Framed Bathscreen White Stripe 312335 (Aqualux)
Do not touch this product! It shattered into my bath whilst my two small children were in the room. The bracket stayed in the wall so there was a probable fracture in the glass. If my children were in the bath it could have been fatal. My bath was also damaged by the impact. Homebase did not take any responsibility and did…
