Advice on fixing some poor plastering work.
Could anyone advise on how best to fix some poor plastering we've just had done please. Basically we had our living room re-plastered, most of the walls were hardwalled. Unfortunately the plasterer we had recommended to us was not quite up to our standard and so now we want to try and fix the messy bits he's left behind.…

Water board refused build over agreement
I'd greatly appreciate anyone's help or feedback. We have been given planning permission for a single storey extension to the rear of our property which will cover our current patio. We knew we would have to gain permission from Southern Water to build over their sewer and manhole cover which unfortunately falls in the…

Good evening everyone, hope you're all well! I am new to MSE so I apologise if this has been asked or discussed previously. I am from Harrogate, North Yorkshire and my wife and I are contemplating building a wrap around extension around the ground floor of our 2 bedroom house and then maybe adding a bit of an extension to…

Gas Fire to Open Fire
I moved into my house in July, and have a lovely fireplace. It's the first thing people comment on when they walk in the door. Originally it was a gas fire, I got disconnected when the plumber was installing the boiler a month or two back. Today, decided to rip out the gas fire and open up the fireplace. Called a Chimney…

Best type of electric heater?
In my experience I dislike fan heaters unless they are in a small space regardless of wattage unless thats purely about efficency of the element or the way the fan spreads the heat. I really like bar heaters to the point where one on low feels more toasty and comfortable than a fan heater on high, the only times I have a…

Plumber's advice needed - shower query
We live in a bungalow. The water pressure is from a tank in the loft and is .3 bar. We do not have boiler-fed water central heating. Instead, we have a hot air system that comes up via 'registers' in the floor. Our shower needs replacing. It is a Trevi system that was installed in 1997 (so 17 years ago). The bathroom is in…

Pressure washer with 20m reach - cheapest reliable way?
My driveway now has more moss and weeds than it does concrete. :( A few people have said that the best way to get and keep it clean is a water pressure washer, and you can pick up ones which review well for only about £50, for example: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7420315.htm The only problem is, the…

Adhesive for PVC
Daughter wishes a cheap splashback for a bathroom wall where there is a shower fitted. A sheet of PVC or Polyproylene seems to fit the bill (acrylic much more expensive). I want to stick it onto a plywood sheet as a backing but wonder how to do for either type. Would Acrylic or Silicone sealant/adhesive do the job if…

Asda R63 LED Bulbs
Just back from Asda where I noticed they now have Asda branded R63 LED bulbs for £5 each. I'd been on the lookout for replacement bulbs as I was aware our kitchen lighting (which takes 3 of them) was still on 60w incandescent and was the single biggest user of electric lighting in our house, having switched various lamps…

Benchmarx---What Sort Of % Discount Should I Expect
We have had one of their people around measuring up and sorting out a design for a new kitchen that will be sent to us in a few days. Before he left he gave us a copy of the Benchmarx price list and said that we could get an idea of our kitchens cost by having a look at the price list. However, he went on to say that the…

The perfect patio roof? Is it possible?
We have a south facing living room with large bifold doors opening onto a patio. We would like to build a roof over the patio but want the best of both worlds - a roof to stop the living room getting like an oven in summer but doesn't stop the light getting in in the winter. Any ideas please?

Removing/covering artex
We've just had an offer accepted on a house that has artex everywhere and we'd like to get it skimmed over. It's quite a strong pattern, not just a few swirls. We think the house is about 40 years old, and we don't know how long the artex has been there or if it has asbestos in it. Would a plasterer need us to get the…

Broken Thames water pipe under kitchen extension

The company which carried out the survey said this needs to be fixed asap, we contacted another…
