Adhesive for PVC

Daughter wishes a cheap splashback for a bathroom wall where there is a shower fitted. A sheet of PVC or Polyproylene seems to fit the bill (acrylic much more expensive).
I want to stick it onto a plywood sheet as a backing but wonder how to do for either type. Would Acrylic or Silicone sealant/adhesive do the job if spread evenly?
