Asda R63 LED Bulbs

Just back from Asda where I noticed they now have Asda branded R63 LED bulbs for £5 each.

I'd been on the lookout for replacement bulbs as I was aware our kitchen lighting (which takes 3 of them) was still on 60w incandescent and was the single biggest user of electric lighting in our house, having switched various lamps over to CFL or LED over the last few years. I hadn't bothered to replace the kitchen lamps with halogen as there wasn't a great saving to be had and CFL was a no no as we needed instant light in there.

Anyway enough rambling - got home, fitted them in and they are brilliant :) Slightly whiter than the previous set but not too stark and the dimensions of the bulbs themselves are almost exactly the same as the old ones so they don't stick out like some LED bulbs do. Quite a bit cheaper than alternatives at Homebase, Amazon etc stock. Time will tell how long they last but the packaging claims just as long as the big branded alternatives, they are quite possibly made by TCP or Osram.

Thanks. Don't normally shop at asda but might pop along to have a look for some of these. I bought 3x 11w megaman cfl r63s for my kitchen about a year ago and while the brightness is almost acceptable once warmed up they do take about 2 minutes to reach full brightness!
  • I spotted presumably the same ones yesterday in our local Asda. I was looking at the E14's and I noticed that they are dimmable.
