Hi folks,
Just bought a murphy Richards upright steam cleaner mop at argos a few days ago, this one,
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2558457.htm
Seems to be putting out the steam ok or so my partner says, but a bit of a knocking noise from inside the works on it, didn't really hear it when we used it the first day. I did ring murphy Richards and they seem to think its the pump noise which is normal they say. They also say to use distilled water and wanted to sell me crystals for £8.99 or a multi pak for £19.99 which I declined.
1 Main thing is, if you have one of these machine should there be a sort of knocking noise from inside the works on it?
2 Whats the cheapest and easiest way to get distilled water?
Many thanks for any advice.

We have this steam cleaner too and the knocking noise gave me a shock at first. However if it is the noise caused by the small brass ball inside the water tank, as ours is, it is OK and supposed to happen.
Don't understand the technical side, but OH says it is the ball rotating to stop the water supply from blocking. Have noticed the sound changes in volume depending on the angle you are holding the steamer at.
We live in soft water area, so have never used distilled water. Did learn from problem with previous steam cleaner, that it is important to empty the water tank completely after use. I've been told that if you have a condenser tumble drier, you can get a supply of distilled water from the dryer water tank.0 -
Thanks very much for reply. I thought it was the brass ball too in water tank but removing the water tank (container) from main unit and the noise is still in main unit, so has to be the pump or something else.
Maybe if you have time you could try this and report back.
Thanks for the tip on distilled water in a condenser dryer, we do have a condenser dryer so that would be a great source.
Thanks again

Hi Martin57.
Tried this and you're right the noise continues in the main unit after removing the water container. OH says it is probably just the pump working in the unit and told me to ignore it.
Must say, I love the steam cleaner. Can zoom round the kitchen in no time.0
