Hi Everyone
I am new owner, just got my property...newbie so question might sound simple.
In the living room the wall paper is a bit old and tired so i borrow a streamer and took off a piece of the wallpaper. Underneath it is like a wood type board.
Can any one advise whats the best option, originally i wanted to strip it then paint over it but not what to do now?
can you plaster over wood?
thanks in advance....

Will it be one of those 8'x4' boards that you get with things like wood effect or tiles on them ?
If it is, perhaps someone in the past thought it was easier to decorate with them. If it does look like that i think you'd be better trying to remove them.
The other alternative could be rather than paint the boards put a wallpaper lining paper up to cover them and paint that.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I think SS has it right, they were "wall boards", I used them back in the 70's, they were popular for covering over crappy or multi papered walls.
Sometimes stuck to the wall or often fitted on battens.
Bottom line is it will all need ripping of and the walls/s replastering to give a modern standard finish.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

would using wallpaper lining paper be an option
so i can paint over it?0 -
I've been doing DIY for years , am pretty proficient at most things but for my 2p's worth I'd still get a plasterer in if I went down the plaster route - it's a black art but practitioners of such come fairly cheap these days0

Believe me you get better at it very quickly if you do enough, and again within constraints, it's easier to plaster a whole wall than patch a few sq yds of it.
I learnt the "knack" from an old guy, died of lung cancer. He told me, and he was correct of course, that it's all in the timing.
Unfortunately his "watch" was the number of fags he smoked waiting for the set at each stage.:A:A:AI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

....that's the black art bit, most of us set a timer or a timer in their mind but the timing of the nicotine urge is the stuff that holds it together, more accurate than either of the above options! .... there's no logic or science to it, only feeling! I can do most things, electric, insulation , even car audio in my younger days but my hat is always off to those that can plaster!0
