new driver insurance
I recently passed my driving test and when it came the time for my dad to renew his own car insurance he enquired about adding me as a named driver. This was with direct line, however they said they wouldn't insure me until I had my licence for a year. Is this normal, or just with this company and why?

Recommend a shower brand for thermostatic mixer?

Machine ruined my furniture
I just moved house and bought some new furniture from Ikea. At the same time I noticed that a steam press I owned stopped working. It blew up when I plugged it in. I had had it for around 3 months. I contacted the seller via Amazon where it was bought and happily they sent out a new one same day which I received the next…

Do you service your washing machine?
As above really, and how much? I'm talking 'getting a bloke in' to sort it, not yourself. Our is an Indesit washer/dryer which is integrated into the cupboards (floor standing though) and I've looked to replace it is £400 when it does fail. It's over 4 years old now, however showing few signs of failing (e.g. it doesnt get…

Possible upcoming party wall problem.
We've been thinking for a long time about extending above the garage. However recently noticed that the neighbour has essentially built on our side of the party wall. If I was to build up then I would fall foul of the cladding on the side of the neighbours house as well as their roof! On the extension they've built above…

Which Boiler for large house?
Currently have a baxi 100/2he plus boiler which seems to be on its last legs (noisy and leaking and probably badly installed)... Have you shopped at BrightHouse (or a similar store)?
Rent to own is where you pay for a product weekly instead of buying it upfront. These are sold by companies such as BrightHouse, PerfectHome and Buy As You View. You essentially take out a loan where you are charged interest to spread out the payments. Usually insurance and repairs are also included. The All-Party…

Conservatories and how to get rid of them.
Personally, I don't like conservatories, I think they give limited extra space (with the doors in the way), are often too cold or too hot, and some of them look like nothing more than a see through shed. I also have a very hard time paying more for a property because of the "value" one of these is supposed to add.…

How to patch heating vent holes in ceiling

The problem is that we are going to be left with holes in all the upstairs ceilings (4 bedrooms, bathroom and landing) when we remove the warm air vents. Hang doorway curtain within doorway or over it?
I think this comes down to personal preference (having looked on Pinterest), but if you were to put up a door curtain would you hang it within the door frame or over it. Within Over I intend to put a curtain on my walk in pantry in the kitchen and in our walk in cupboard in the master bedroom.
