Hi there, I hope someone could help us with cistern in new house. Its quite clear we are missing some bits but hubby cannot work out what exactly. Is this something we could do ourselves or would we need to employ a professional?
Thank you

    New float arm required...

Personally I'd go for one of <these>

  • What a superstar you are :T THANK YOU so much, it just looked a bit different to the normal ball float type so we weren't sure.
I really appreciate your help Russ :)

Feel free to press the 'Thanks' button then :D

Does the flush mechanism work? It looks like a pneumatic version - does anythinf move when you press the flush button?

  • HAHA, I m usually on top of that but forgot, I've been swimming in a sea of boxes for days so brain is going.
Yes the flush seems to be working ok, obviously no water in there atm.
Do we need anything else or just the float?
    Thanks again :)

Maybe a new 1/2" fibre washer for where the connection is made to the new valve.

Test the flush first to make sure it works as expected.... Start with a litre of water in the cistern then flush.. if all ok, increase and test - nothing more annoying that 'assuming' all's going to be ok. Get a torch down there to look for concealed drips ;)

Any idea why the valve has been disassembled in the first place?
There must be an isolation valve somewhere too - have you found it? (DON'T turn it on, just look for it!!)

I am trying to work out why the previous residents took the float arm.

Is there a clandestine section in Camden market for them?
  • The float arm might have been brass & they have cashed it in !!!

Maybe a market for plastic float arms :D

  • Well we are back in business thanks to your excellent advice Russ :j:j
It is a mystery why it was missing in the first place but as we go through rooms one at the time there's a lot more that doesn't make sense LOL
    Thank you once again :)
