Which Boiler for large house?

Currently have a baxi 100/2he plus boiler which seems to be on its last legs (noisy and leaking and probably badly installed)...
We have had several breakdowns at the start of the year which thankfully were covered by Scottish gas after much head scratching by them....but I am thinking it will not last this winter as its leaking water from somewhere. Been told I need to get a new boiler but not sure whether that is just profiteering plumbers or it really is on its last legs.
My house is large (6 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 2 shower room(1 elec, 1 tank fed). Fuel bills are approx. 2.5k-3k pa, Approx 19 radiators and We have 2 hot water tanks in the attic.
What are my options for a new boiler? I am wanting something that is efficient (possibly save me on fuel bills), reliable (wont break down every year) and will offer me dependable heating.

What's your budget? Get 3 quotes from independent GSR RGI's.
And if anyone tells you to fit a combi, cross them off your list.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Why not a combi? What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0

i am interested in this. similar house over 4 floors currently has 2 boilers both 25 years old.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -
A combi is usually only capable of supplying one hot water draw at a time, so with multiple bathrooms it's not advised. That said we have just had a 38cdi Worcester Bosch combi fitted for a house with 14 radiators, an en suite shower room and the main bathroom (plus cloakroom toilet and kitchen and utility taps). Being realistic are you going to run the shower while someone is filling the bath....or will you wait 5 minutes? We were told ours was man enough to do both at once and our incoming gas pipe was upgraded to a 28mm instead of 22mm but we've never actually tried it as thats just not a common occurance.0

i think we have about 25 radiators. We have been told not suitable for combi but advise is split on which boiler is suitableJune challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

from what i have read and from other peoples experience....
combi's are not suitable or recommended for large households. This is also the advice coming from valliant and worcestor bosch.
These 2 firms also seem to come out top on reliability according to Which.
Approx price for a 28kw system boiler (hot n cold water tank) from the above firms comes in around 850 for the boiler and whatever else on top for fitting n flue parts. 5 yr guarantee as well but no doubt terms and conditions attached. The 32kw offering comes in at 1.2k boiler only with 7 yr warranty.
Or alternative thought I have been having....to keep existing boiler this year, invest in wireless thermostats controlled from ccentral access point. Might help reduce my heating bills as over half the house is empty most of the time!0 -
This post details some of the popular mainstream combi boiler models available out there for large properties like yours:

It sounds like you certainly have a high demand for hot water and heating, so the Worcester 42CDi may be a good choice as this is the most powerful model they do (it has a central heating output of 30kW and a strong flowrate of 17.2 litres/min).
Failing that then maybe a regular boiler or system boiler model may be a better bet as you then have stored hot water supply? Obviously best to discuss all of this with a qualified Gas Safe installer and the latter would no doubt be a little more costly than simply swapping your current combi for a new one
Good luck!0 -
We currently have a open vented condensing boiler...not a combi.
And i do not want to get a combi fitted.
Considering going for a system boiler from valliant. Got an engineer coming out to survey later this week.0 -
The Valliant Ecotech 30kw High Efficiency Boiler would be just right for you I would agree with the other posts that if you have a multiple occupancy household or more than one bathroom or en suites a Combi wouldn't be very good for you! I work for a company called FEP Heatcare, let me know if you need anymore info. Glad to assist in any way I can?0
