Pump under property - not in floodrisk area
We have just had an offer accepted on our first home. The sale of the property recently fell through. I asked the estate agent why and was told that there was a pump found underneath the property when the searches were done to stop it from flooding and the buyer did not want to go ahead. The property is not in a flood risk…

Shared soil stack in apartment building?
Is it normal for all of the toilets in an apartment block to drain into a single soil stack / SVP? If the SVP blocked at the lower level, what would stop the sewage all backing up and flowing out of the lowest toilet in the block?

is putty still "best" for wooden windows?
the putty needs replacing in my garage windows. These are single glazed wooden frames and there is absolutely no need to replace the window frame at all so that is not at issue. However, I was wondering if there is a "better" alternative to (linseed oil) putty nowadays for use in wooden windows? Mastic? Something else?

gaps have openwd in laminate floor - fixable?
Gaps have opened up in my laminate flooring but it's in otherwise good condition. Seems a shame to replace it just because of that but the gaps are really quite bad. I'm wondering if it's fixable. I'm loathe to take the whole floor up and refit it though and wondered if a) there was any way of fixing it without doing that…

The part that needs to be replaced is near French windows so in a sort of alcove part & about 60 x 90cm needs replacing. We're not sure where we'll arrange furniture so can't easily identify a spot…

is underfloor heating feasible / expensive?
Hello all, Were are planning to fit a new kitchen which is situated between the garage and the lounge. We are tempted to remove the radiator and instead install underfloor gas heating to win some space. A friend of ours had electric underfloor heating installed in the bathroom and he confirmed that it was super expensive…

old unwanted cooker, no scrap metal collectors popping round.
Hi In the past when we needed to get rid of old unwanted appliances we would just leave them in the front garden and scrap metal collectors would take them away in days. Recently, nobody is coming round any more. I'm, curious, has scrap metal collecting from people's front gardens been outlawed? The council charges £15 for…

Budget for bricklaying costs
The wall next to my house fell down last December and I think it's about time I got it fixed! I'm planning to get the materials myself (because I've cleaned up most of the old bricks to be re-used), so I'm after just straight bricklaying costs. Please can someone give me an idea of how much I should expect it to cost? I'm…

Neighbours guttering problem *UPDATE*
Wasn't sure where to post this and thought this seemed like the most relevant place! My neighbours guttering downpipe broke almost a year ago meaning that a lot of the rain we had over the winter that landed on their roof, ran all down the side of our house. Annoying, but we didn't say anything because we were sure that…
