Hello all,
Were are planning to fit a new kitchen which is situated between the garage and the lounge. We are tempted to remove the radiator and instead install underfloor gas heating to win some space.
A friend of ours had electric underfloor heating installed in the bathroom and he confirmed that it was super expensive running it.
Can anyone shed some light if they found it expensive to run? Or their experience overall in having underfloor heating?
Thank you.

Any electric heating is expensive to run. Due to the fact that the cost of electricity per unit is much higher than the equivalent amount of heat/energy supplied by gas.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Consider installing a wet plinth heater instead. Ours is cheap to run and works well.

For how long each day do you expect to run it? I've had it in a bathroom, where I'd run it for half an hour in the morning and 15 mins before bed on a timer, so given it's a small space it's quite cheap to run. If it's a large room, and you'd want it running for hours a day, it will be expensive.
Also bear in mind the floor will be warm to whatever touches it! E.g. if you set your groceries on it for twenty minutes while you do something else, they might spoil!
Have you thought of kickboard heaters? Placed under a cupboard, so as not to take up additional wall space.0 -
Underfloor heating prices depend on the type of property you live in and how well insulated your house is.
If you're in a well insulated house that isn't open plan you will probably pay less for underfloor heating than if you're in an old, open planned, poorly insulated property.
There are also little things you can do to improve the running costs of your underfloor heating such as keep doors and windows closed if you're not in a room and turn your thermostat for your heating only when you're in the property etc.
You can get a better idea about running costs if you search: allbriteuk.co.uk/categories/underfloor-heating.html
