old unwanted cooker, no scrap metal collectors popping round.

Hi
In the past when we needed to get rid of old unwanted appliances we would just leave them in the front garden and scrap metal collectors would take them away in days.
Recently, nobody is coming round any more. I'm, curious, has scrap metal collecting from people's front gardens been outlawed?
The council charges £15 for collection, so want to save that if I can.
We got the new appliances fitted by the kitchen fitter and not currys, but the kitchen fitters do not do disposal of old appliances.

Not been outlawed as such as far as I know BUT I believe there has been some changes to the legislation.
Maybe its not very profitable in your local area now ??
Bung it on Freecycle / Freegle etc.0 -
We just put stuff at the end of the drive and its normally gone the next day , people driving by seem to want our unwanted stuff they don't even ask if its working, just load it up and off they go. Put it out and see what happens.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Don't know of any changes for scrapping old cookers, you can't just 'give away' fridges 'cos of the gases inside them.
I'd give another vote for Freecycle.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Yep, mine too. Put an oven out on Tuesday afternoon, it had gone by 7pm.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
If you're on Facebook, try your local 'mytown' buy & sell page?0

Legislation has changed for scrap dealers. They now have to have a licence which includes an interview with police. If you have criminal convictions, chances are, you won't get a license. You will find legitimate scrap dealers in your area online, if you google it.0

My local free ads paper regularly has advertisers offering to pick up scrap metal for free. I assume it's the normal "scrap metal fairies", but you can give them a ring so that they know where to look.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Not a cooker - but my DH once took an entire washing machine to pieces and put it, a bit at a time, over the next few weeks, into the normal wheelie bin! I'm sure he'd do it with our cooker too........0

good news, I put it outside and it was gone on Sunday evening. Sunday evening/monday morning seems to be the scrap collectors favourite time. Looking back that's about the time most of the stuff was taken.0

My local free-ad had a number too. Called and he collected the next day.0
