Slow Filling Cistern - Have Pics
Hi folks, The cistern in my bathroom takes about 30 mins to fill after a flush. I've heard this can be potentially quite easy to fix, but also potentially quite expensive if pipes need to be cleaned out. By any chance do any of you any knowledge of how I would go about trying to fix this myself? Pictures of my cistern are…

Fridge/Freezer occasional loud noise
I have a Blomberg Frost Free fridge/freezer about 7 years old. It freezes and chills perfectly but sometimes makes a loud rythamic noise. The red light comes on but if I just bang the door strongly or turn off for a few minutes it stops and goes back to normal. This can occur once in a week or a couple of times in one day.…

Excessive Hedge Strimming - Nuisance neighbour
How do I stop a neighbour being a nuisance with his excessive hedge strimming? I have known my fiancee for 6 years. Last year I moved into her home, we are to be married shortly and plan to continue living there. Her property is one of many on her road that lies ajacient to one of the many well used footpaths that…

Cheap washing machine
After about 12 years my original cheap washing machine has died. Rather than spend money getting it fixed I thought I might look for a spin dryer as there's only one of me and I don't mind handwashing. However they seem to cost as much as a new washing machine. I've seen a couple of little camping machines on Amazon which…

Bioethanol fireplace?
Hi everyone. I know it's not exactly the right kind of weather to be thinking about this at the moment (!) but I've just come across the concept of bioethanol fireplaces. In my lounge I have an empty fireplace which is unusable because the chimney breast has been removed from the room above. So having discovered these I'm…

Header tank suddenly filling for hours and really noisy - Help!
I have never heard my header tank filling before. Monday night a couple of hours after having a bath it sounded like a bath was being run in the loft. I went up to check the large tank and it looked really empty. It took hours for the water to stop running in but eventually did. Did not notice any noise yesterday, but…

Jones Sewing machine problem
Anyone on here know about sewing machines. I have been given a vintage Jones Concord Delux Precision Zig Zag sewing machine. It has the instruction book and I have threaded it as per the book, also the bobbin as per the book. Despite tinkering with the tension, pressure on the foot, sewing not darning, I still cant get it…

Damp garage
My house has a garage in the back garden - it looks like a DIY build by a previous owner. The trouble is that the garage has incorporated an existing retaining wall that runs across the garden. On two sides, the ground level is about 5 feet above the garage floor level. Whenever it rains hard, the rainwater seeps through…

using mosaic tiles as a border - do you need a trim?
as it says in the title really, just another major problem in a long list of problems. Ordered mosaics to use in a border, arrived late so builder left gap for them. Then found they were a lot less thick than the main tiles. Bought backing for them and fitted them but now seem to have a huge(ish) gap both above and below…

Parking woes :( Ahhhh
I live opposite a block of flats (there are several blocks nearby). The flats opposite are new builds. They all have one space. However the people there are sooooo lazy they cannot be bothered to walk from their secure parking at the back of the flats to the front that they park outside my house. I am not that bothered by…

Gas BBQ - how much gas
We need to take a gas BBQ for an upcoming holiday to south of france. As they dont rent them and you can only have gas we are going to have to take a small portable one and cylinder. Personally I much prefer charcoal so Ive never had a gas one. I know it depends on lots of factors but to have a small 1-2 burner gas bbq on…

Stuck window help
We are having problems opening the window in our flat. The window frames are wooden and the whole window hinges in the centre and usually tilts open to about 45 degrees. Our flat suffers from quite bad condensation and I suspect this is the cause. I have tried using WD40 on the hinges and around the frame but it won't…

What are these small plastic inserts in brickwork? (I am now told they are weep holes
My house was built in 2004. There are a number of small plastic inserts in the brickwork. Some are above windows, one is above a ground level air brick and some are just apparantly randomly placed in the wall. Are they drainage holes or some kind of ventilation? I often see bees going in and out of them.

Who is responsible?
I had an extension just prior to Christmas and now have lovely patio doors, obviously with the weather we have hardly opened them up till this week. Every time I have opened them I have had to get someone back out to re-adjust them as the locks are catching and they will not close. I cannot close them again today. The…
