So there we are, my porch is an old council outhouse with a nice 4" hole through the wall for some form of vent. Pretty cold in that place, with no windows either. So the plan was to have the window installed, to let some light into the hallway/stairs as after 5pm its pretty much dark and you always need the lights on.…

Replacing bath for shower with fully tiled walls
We're wondering about replacing our bath with a shower cubicle in a bathroom which is fully tiled (but not behind the bath down to the floor). The tiles are 30 years old, in excellent condition but now obsolete so we can't replace missing tiles on the lower part of the wall once the bath is removed and a shower has been…

Why has my toilet started grunting?
Very bizarre. Our toilet has started grunting when we flush it - started a couple of weeks ago and hasn't done anything before then. It makes a kind of long groan (sounds as though it just can't be bothered any more!) Any ideas what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Whirlpool bath
My father in law installed us a new bathroom a couple of years ago, complete with a spa style bath. A couple of weeks ago water started to stream from the kitchen ceiling. It seems that one of the joints in the bath is leaking and his solution is to silicon up the pipes which would mean it is just a bath without any jets.…

Cutting washing costs
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I hope so. My problem is my OH goes to the gym during the week and plays sport at the weekends. He sweats a LOT and his sports gear reeks afterwards. I can't see the financial sense in putting the washing machine on every day for one set of gym/sports gear, but I am not sure I…

Instant water heater?
Has anyone installed one of these? I'm moving into a flat with no gas supply. Hi Folks, II'd appreciate any suggestions. I'm doing a bit of renovation on a relative's property and we've removed her old fitted wardrobes (way too big for the room). The room looks much airier now but there's a gap in the skirting board. This flat must have a unique skirting board profile as I searched in all the usual…

Well this is my first ever thread - please be kind to me! :rotfl::rotfl: My partner and I own two townhouses that are next door to each other. New bathroom extractor fan
I'd like to replace my bathroom extractor fan. Current one has manual pull cord to switch on. No timer overrun, or humidity sensor. Also it has an external flap than blows in the wind and is very annoying. I'd like to replace it with one that avoids these problems. Ease of installation is main priority. Current fan is…

Good title, hey?! Lol. Front door has a Traditional Night Latch (yale type, bog standard) lock. On pushing the door shut (from inside) the little round button sometimes drops down so that the lock is locked. Luckily this has only happened when one person still in house so able to open door from inside. We have often said…
