My porch...

So there we are, my porch is an old council outhouse with a nice 4" hole through the wall for some form of vent. Pretty cold in that place, with no windows either.
So the plan was to have the window installed, to let some light into the hallway/stairs as after 5pm its pretty much dark and you always need the lights on.
Porch at Start

Window installed, not really a good job. I paid £360 for this.

Nearly there, Just a few more coats of paint, 4" hole still exists & wondering if to block it up. No heating in the porch so just a cold storage room.

Oh the joys of a week off and a gift card for B&Q.

find a nice cheap cupboard (or a free one) and cut the back out of it. paint it to suit.
itll cover the gas meter nicely.Get some gorm.0 -
We did think about the cupboard thing, but if it has no bottom section, the doors will drag across the floor.
Therefore will need to be stepped up from the floor.0 -
Great job. It looks a 100 times better0

you can either trim 5mm off the bottonm of the doors or attach 5mm bottom strips to the two sides, or even use little hidden feet.Get some gorm.0

A good idea, and i could seal it from the inside.
Wondering if i need to leave enough space to get the meter out / in or if i can leave a small hole to read it, with the option to remove the whole unit at a later date.
I guess when we rent it out, the meter will be changed to a key-item.0 -
Nice job I agree you need a cupboard for meter and its complete0

Looks much better, why not fill up the hole and plaster over it? Maybe it was for a tumble dryer in the past, but no need having cold air coming in.
You could put in a radiator to heat the room if you can run the pipes into the room, or if not put an electric radiator in?For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
for now just leave enough space to read it.
id make sure it was easy to remove for future maintenence.
say a four screw fixing to the wall?Get some gorm.0 -

The walls are the same panels that were fitted originally, i fitted some batton and nailed them back on.
The porch is an outhouse, so just a cold store room. I could block it up from the outside. Might take the cover off, put some felt across it and refit.
I would like a air supply in there, so it doesnt get cold.
The idea was to fit the window etc to give some light into the hallway. It now looks like someone has left the lights on.0 -
