Advise on paints please

Options
:eek:Yes i`m a women :) so know very little about decorating tbh. :o
Right as silly as it sounds are the top make paints a must or are there cheap versions that do the job better, or just as good as them?

Reason i`m asking is we will be moving into our first family home early next yr and i have been thinking about how much i will need for DIY. Hoping to stock up prior to the move to help budget for other expenses such as allpapers and flooring.

My hubby said dulux etc is a must! but my Mum and Dad is saying any silk emoultion or gloss will do as they all do the same thing and most come in huge tubs.

Also anyone know of a gloss suitable to be used for children rooms as some can be very strong and linger for a long time and i`m a bit concerned about that.

Sorry for sounding silly but i really don`t know who to ask

Well worth paying the extra for Dulux or Crown imo. To save money we bought a huge tub of Dulux and painted the whole of the downstairs in Natural Hessian. Much cheaper than buying a different colour for each room.

Not sure about the low emissions gloss, I am sure if you went into Homebase or B&Q you would see it on the shelves.

if you get dulux trade it will go further than the non trade dulux stuff you get from diy stores
if you want a tough gloss i can recommend bedec msp http://www.bedec.co.uk/. i am trying to switch my customers over to it , it's water based , doesn't smell too bad dries really quickly , doesn't need a separate undercoat and is tough

Am in the middle of doing up the spare bedroom , i had about a third of a tin of white dulux emulsion leftover from when my living room was painted, it was still in usable condition after 3 years, just needed a tiny drop of water added to it.

  • Instead of Dulux why not try Glidden Paints much cheaper, as good and still made by ICI, you can get it at any Dulux Decorator Centre.

If you can find a dulux trade center i would go there it`s just called a trade center but anyone can buy from there , crown and giddins as mentioned above are also quality paints.

What you will find if you buy cheap focus own paints it`s like water and you`ll need at least 16 coats !!!

I run a Maintenance Company and we always use Macphersons Paints. They are a good quality Trade paint made by Crown. Try an independent decorators merchants to see wgat they have. Dulux is good paint, but imo you pay for the name.
