Why has my toilet started grunting?

Very bizarre. Our toilet has started grunting when we flush it - started a couple of weeks ago and hasn't done anything before then. It makes a kind of long groan (sounds as though it just can't be bothered any more!)
Any ideas what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Is it one of the push button types?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Ours did this. It was a rubber washer inside the ball valve mechanism. The washer cost 50p. As the ball rises it presses against this washer. If the washer wears it starts to vibrate when the pressure of the in comming water is great.

Imagine the call to B&Q or trade counter - Hello my toilet has been grunting at me every time I use it, can you help?
We had an issue with the water supply pipe vibrating after the toilet was flushed, luckily we had an isolator valve in the pipe so we turned the pressure down and it stopped it, just a takes a few seconds longer to fill now.
Otherwise I'd suggest calling in a vetThe advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D

It is, yes. I'll try and see if I can change the washer at some point today and see if that helps. Thanks for your replies.0 -
Does the grunt come from the cistern or the bowl. If it is the cistern, probably the washer as advise above, if from the bowl it could be a slight blockage. Try Jeyes fluid or something similar left in the bolw for 20 minutes, then flush.0

Are you sure that the grunting came from the toilet and not from somebody using it?I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Your poo fairy is probably getting a bit old to be lugging heavy things around. I'd change him immediately.0
