Recommendations for mouse-proof storage boxes please
Can anyone recommend the above? I've just been clearing out the under-eaves storage and I'm sick to death of everything being chewed or used for nesting material. I do my best to keep the mice out, from a council visit, 2 cats, blocking off holes etc etc but its a very old stone house, half built into the hill and though…

How much to buy and fit new thermostat for immersion?
My immersion heater water is getting far too hot, I asked an electrician to look at it a while ago and he turned it down, and said it was fine, which I'd already done previously, obviously! Sometimes it comes out at a reasonable temperature, at other times it's absolutely boiling, I'm sure I could make tea with it. And I…

cat flap in a uPVC double glazed window
Is it possible to fit a cat flap in one of the glass panels of a upvc double glazed window? I've heard you'd need to get a ready made bit of double glazed glass with a hole especially made for the flap or maybe can put in a plastic(?) panel instead where the glass was and have the cat flap put through there? But it is…

Spray painting veneer furniture?
We've just started the process of buying a flat and all the fees are eating up any savings and credit cards we had left! So in an effort to save cash we're keeping the furniture we already have in our rented flat. It's mostly Ikea or Argos cheap-as-chips stuff as we didn't really intend to keep it for long and now won't…

Exterior coach screw - high pull-out retention
What does the term "high pull-out retention" mean with coach screws? As in this description. Does it mean it will not be pulled out easily? Sorry if this seems a daft question.

getting rid of paint on garage wall - recommendations?
As the title suggests! The side of our garage has white flaking paint which looks awful. Can anyone recommend a product I can use to get rid of it? Obviously wire brush and elbow grease will also be needed but if anyone can recommend something which will make the job any easier I'd be very grateful! :D

Cleaning uPVC guttering.....?
Does anyone have any advice for me with the following problem please.... Our house is about 15 years old and has brown uPVC gutting and downpipes. BoilerMate ll Insulation?
Should I add more insulation to my BoilerMate ll ? It's located in our airing cupboard, is about 10 years old and works fine, BUT the airing cupboard is always very warm, presumably due to the "thermal store" of hot water it contains. Any ideas??

IKEA kitchens any experiences??
Hi Just wondering whether anyone has any comments on IKEA kitchens. We are kitchen shopping at the mo after nearing the end of a renovation project. We are waiting for a quote from Buildbase and Howdens are visiting next week (we have trade accounts). However, I went to IKEA yesterday and was quite impressed by their…

Bathroom window - no window board
I've finally got the old (and very wonky) tiles off the window recess in the bathroom, and there's nothing underneath them, just the original stonework and about 5mm of crumbling lime mortar. I'm going to be putting 10mm thick pvc cladding (decos) over it, and I am wondering if it would be better to put something else down…

Sunday Mirror Homes and Holidays
Hi! An odd question, but does anyone still have a copy, maybe in their recycling, of the homes and holidays magazine that comes with the Sunday Mirror? I really wanted to keep the copy from last Sunday (16/8), as it has some useful websites and a link to an item I wanted to buy- but my mum typically threw it away!!! If…

Architrave and tiles?
All our rooms have architrave around the doors and windows. I've seen pictures of tiles bathrooms that have tiles round the window so there is no window sill, wood reveal or architrave....it's just all tiles. It looks very nice but what happens at the doorway? Is architrave still used there? I can't imagine a doorway with…

Is a bath centre waste ever a problem?
Does it dig in when you're lying in the bath, do you feel it at all? Does it ever pop up or open when you're having a bath? Now we have bathroom walls back up, it's become apparent that the bath we wanted is just too big so we're revising our shopping list. Carron have a new bath out called Celsius which is a very modern…

Advice needed - Indesit washing machine not working!!!
Hope somebody can help me.... I've got an Indesit WD10 washer/dryer. A few months ago it stopped drying - I realised it wasn't getting hot. I wasn't overly bothered, because I only used it for towels and bedding, so decided to make do without a dryer. I didn't really think it through properly, as obviously it isn't heating…
