Damp proof company - is this usual?
We've just bought a house with damp, and have found some paperwork relating to a previous damp proof course which is guaranteed for 20 years. It was done 12 years ago. I have rung the company who've sent me a form to fill in, and they will come out and have a look. However they want to know loads of things I don't know…

Hello We're in the process of choosing a new bathroom suite (never done it before) and the suite we like features a close coupled toilet. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of these - i've not seen them before but like the look of not having the pipe work exposed. However, i'm also concerned regarding what happens…

extra kitchen unit shelves
Hi We've just had a kitchen fitted, and I need extra shelves for my broom cupboard. I'm after the simple plain white shelves that sit on the 4 hinges. I've asked at the shed where I bought it, but they dont supply them (so they say). Anyone know anywhere else where I can get them?

Ikea worktops - edging strips?
We have ordered an Ikea kitchen and Ikea Pragel black stone-effect worktops. One of the worktops will be on a peninsula - i.e. will be visible from both sides, in the middle of the room, with no wall on either side. I have just found out that one edge of the worktop is raw (no edging) and Ikea do not sell edging strips…

Ideas please - what to do with kitchen space
We're in the process of buying our first property - a two bed terraced that while structurally sound needs a fair amount of modernising - so expect to hear a lot from me as we are complete novices!! It needs a new kitchen, and just at the minute I'm in dream planning stage, rather than the awkward complicated planning…

I need a good green algae treatment
I have a tower aquarium, and need a good green algae treatment for it...however, I don't know which one to choose. I have done a general search and looked on Ebay, but there seems to be a lot of choice. Can anyone recommend a good one that will actually work, as I don't want to waste my hard earned cash!!

Opinions please - plasterboard overhangs skirting - photos
Hi, we're having some renovation done to our (small) conservatory and it includes some insurance work for a slight subsidence problem. Kitchen Lighting Advice Please?
Hi I'm changing my kitchen lighting from a fleurescent strip light 40w which is sufficient for my needs. I have a bar of directional spotlights (90cm length) but am worried there won't be enough light. I have bought a bar with 4 x maxiumum 40w so will equate to 160w overall. I am trying to find out if this will be anything…

IKEA Pax wardrobe
Hi bought and fitted an IKEA PAX wardrobe a few months ago. The ceiling was exactly the same height as the frame and the recessed space was the same width. After a lot of hard work I managed to get the frame into the gap. Job well done..unfortunately, one of the doors rubs the ceiling when opened. I think that this is…

Vinyl over Old plastic floor tiles?
The kitchen in our house (built 1978) was carpeted. On pulling back the carpet we found vinyl tiles, which peel off to reveal 'plastic' looking tiles (thermoplastic?). These plastic tiles are stuck to the concrete floor with black (bitumen?) adhesive. We would like to lay vinyl. Our local carpet shop came round to quote…

Is this the same for ALL mixer taps?
It hasn't occured to me before but someone has just told me that if I want to keep my fast flow rate, then I need to stick with separate 'ordinary' bath taps. If I go for any kind of mixer, then the flow rate will be reduced and the bath will take longer to fill. Is that correct? I know the integrated bath overflow/fillers…
