I need a good green algae treatment

I have a tower aquarium, and need a good green algae treatment for it...however, I don't know which one to choose.
I have done a general search and looked on Ebay, but there seems to be a lot of choice.
Can anyone recommend a good one that will actually work, as I don't want to waste my hard earned cash!!

Hi, the best thing to fix algae in the aquarium is to sort the source of the problem.
Assuming it's not Cyano Bacteria (aka blue green algae) then some of the following can help:
* Do not overfeed - many people over feed their fish. I feed mine once every other day.
* Reduce the amount of light - I have my tank light on for 8 hours a day. To get the most benefit so I can enjoy the tank, it comes on at 1pm. It may also be that the tank is getting direct sunlight which won't help.
* You could try having live plants - this will provide competition for the algae.
* Nitrates could be too high, it's recommended to do 20% water change every week.0 -

I don't know what the problem is...but I don't think it is any of the above mentioned items.
It is a new tank and has not had fish in it...yet...so it isn't a problem with overfeeding.
It is not in direct sunlight, nor has it had the light turned on, at all.
Has a pump and filtration system, and since we filled it up, we have been busy doing other things, so hence it has gotten forgotten about (it is in a room that isn't used much!!
The water is very green and thought I might just be able to buy something to add to the water. When life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!0 -

I believe it's common for a new tank to get an algae bloom.
Are you 'cycling' it? If you don't know what I mean, see here: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=1138610
