Architrave and tiles?

All our rooms have architrave around the doors and windows.
I've seen pictures of tiles bathrooms that have tiles round the window so there is no window sill, wood reveal or architrave....it's just all tiles.
It looks very nice but what happens at the doorway? Is architrave still used there? I can't imagine a doorway with tiles overlapping the plate and no architrave?
If you do have architrave, does it not look a bit odd that there is none round the window too?
(Yes, I know, I'm overthinking things again.

Yep, architrave is still used around the doors, we have just done as you have described in our en-suite. Tiles around the windows and architrave around the doors and it looks lovely - well, so says me anyhow! Oh we also do not have any skirting it is literally all tiled from floor to ceiling apart from the architrave round the door.

My parents main bathroom has all tiled windowsill but still architrave around the door with tiles at half height up against the architrave (well not that tight as you need to allow a grout line. Windowsill they used tile edging strip on the external corners of the window recess so no sharp edges.

In Scotland especially in the North, it's the norm to have the window trimmed in the same way as the door.Herman - MP for all!0

all the victorian houses i've lived in have had architrave round the windows, my current edwarian house doesn't so when we do the bathroom will tile the window recess and sil but leave achitrave on the doorPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I had my bathroom done almost two years ago now. I kept the bathroom window sill but have tiled into the window and up to the door facings if that makes sense.
I also tiled right down to the floor which has no skirting boards and I think it looks great and have no regrets at all doing it this way.0 -

I was thinking about doing that too actually, keeping the sill makes for easier cleaning I think, no grout lines to worry about on the horizontal area where people will sit things.
I'm not having skirtings either, I did wonder if we needed them since we're having vinyl on the floor and not tiles, but I've since seen this done and it looks fine I think.Herman - MP for all!0
