cat flap in a uPVC double glazed window

Is it possible to fit a cat flap in one of the glass panels of a upvc double glazed window?
I've heard you'd need to get a ready made bit of double glazed glass with a hole especially made for the flap or maybe can put in a plastic(?) panel instead where the glass was and have the cat flap put through there?
But it is possible except the original panel would have to be removed? Is this correct?

Yes it is possible. There are companies that specialise in cat flaps in double glazing, but I imagine that a lot of local d/g companies could make up a panel with a cat flap in it. I would not recommend using a plastic panel instead. It would have to be very thick to bring it up to the same thickness as the original double glazing. If it was not as thick as the original, then the glazing sealing sections would not be able to hold the panel correctly.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
We had a cat flap in an opaque panel in the a D/G door, the panels are as thick as the Glazing unit, they are basically two sheets of UPVC with Expanded polystyrene between them.
When you no longer need the Cat flap (boo) the "holed panel can be replaced for either a Whole solid or a new D/G unitNiall
