Is a bath centre waste ever a problem?

Does it dig in when you're lying in the bath, do you feel it at all? Does it ever pop up or open when you're having a bath?

Now we have bathroom walls back up, it's become apparent that the bath we wanted is just too big so we're revising our shopping list. Carron have a new bath out called Celsius which is a very modern straight carronite bath that has an integrated overflow and filler. (Can't find out much info about the filler yet, still looking to see if that has a good flow or if it'll be reduced).

Anyway, the bath has a square central waste....the other one we were looking at had the waste at the side rather than the middle. So is a central waste ever a problem?

The celcius range is available with end or side mounted fittings. The fittings for the celcius range look very nice. I assume you have seen the bath in a store? FYI contact General Enquiries 01324 638407 Scottish Sales Office 01324 673019 info@carronbathrooms.com

You normally sit at the end so I would not think a central drain would be a problem?

This simple combined overflow, filler & waste may give you an idea of how they work > http://www.bathstorm.com/acatalog/Trend_Bath_FillerE.html

I had one made by Grohe, very stylish and never gave me any problems.

Thanks missile. I haven't seen the bath anywhere than on the Carron website. We're not blessed with very many showrooms up my neck of the woods and the ones we do have, don't have this bath.

I'm a bit of a bath slob I'm afraid...the kind of person who kinda lies/lounges....I definitely don't sit. :D I imagine the waste to be at the exact area where my butt will be. :D If it closes, and stays closed and flush then that's fine but I have visions of my backside opening it. :rotfl:

I didn't know you could get end fittings on this bath too.....I have to say I think the Carron website isn't as informative as it could be. There is no info about the overflow/filler as far as I can see...other than to say it's an option.

I'll give them a ring tomorrow.

I have not seen this Carron design, but I have seen similar and would guess there will be an actuator mechanism to push the waste plug up for emptying the bath. I very much doubt it will pop up whilst you are in it. The weight of water (and possibly your bottom ROFL) will improve the seal.

I am sure it will look great and you will enjoy relaxing in your new bathroom.

I've had a centre fill/waste bath for ages. Never had any problems with it emptying or being uncomfortable.

Not sure if it's the same thing but we have the "pop up" waste in the centre of the bath where plug would be. Yes it is as you describe your butt would indeed pop it open if you sit on it, I have to say though I have done this a couple of times with ours but I just pop it down again and it doesn't seem to do it again during the same bath, mainly I think because when you are laying down your butt is the far side of it so it tends to just do it when going from sitting to laying if you don't try to avoid it.

I've always wondered about this as well. It always looks to me as if those centre wastes are just about where my legs would be flailing around or where I slide gently down to soak my head in the water.

My lovely oh refuses to have one of those baths with a plughole in the middle after staying in a hotel with one. He loves a bath (an hour + each time!) & it was continually in the wrong place. Even when it stayed closed he could feel it & he got very grumply, esp as we'd chosen the room for the bath...

my kids sometimes knock it out if they are bathing together but thats usually cos they are jumping about too much, not a problem for the adults. As someone who decadently likes to top up the bath with hot water I def prefer taps at the end to taps in the middle as one side gets too hot!

My bath has waste and taps in the middle and they are fine there and don't seem to cause a problem however in hindsight the bath doesn't have sloping ends enough for me and makes it hard to lie down in a slouchy way. Not sure why I didn't notice this in the showroom. It's more of a two person bath!
