Spray painting veneer furniture?

We've just started the process of buying a flat and all the fees are eating up any savings and credit cards we had left! So in an effort to save cash we're keeping the furniture we already have in our rented flat.
It's mostly Ikea or Argos cheap-as-chips stuff as we didn't really intend to keep it for long and now won't match the bits we can afford to buy for the new flat.
So, does anyone know if I can spray paint veneered furniture? If I could at least make everything the same colour we could happily live with it as we actually really like the shapes of the furniture we have.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can spray paint it, but you may find that the finish is far from durable - think of the existing finish showing through. In short, in 6 months, it could look worse than if you had not bothered. Try one item first - least value and see if it lasts 6 months.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Thanks frank.hopper. I've been googling it and seem to have been a bit hit and miss. This definitely gives me some tips on getting started. I'll take DVardysShadow's advice and do 1 piece first to see how it goes.
I've spotted a coffee table in Ikea for £15 so if this doesn't work out, I know where to go.
Pity all the furniture I want to do isn't £15 or I could probably afford to buy it all rather than spray it!0 -
the furniture is made much the same way as kitchen units. so use the same methods.
(sugar soap?)
good sanding down first and then use the correct primer. after that you can use almost any major brand paint.Get some gorm.0
