Empire Direct edXtra card
Empire Direct offer 3 years guarantee with the purchase of their edXtra card (£30). Seems like a good deal... but the edXtra card is valid for only 12months. Does this mean after 12 months you need to buy a new one to continue the 'free extended guarantee'. If this is the case then TWO YEARS of extra guarantee costs £90…

Hi My oven has stopped heating up from the bottom, does anyone have any idea that I could try to get it working again? I'm getting no heat from the bottom at all. It's a cheapy MFI one if that helps at all. I don't expect there is anything I can do but I thought I'd ask here before replacing it. Thanks

Bathroom Paint Disaster
I took all the old tiles of my bathroom walls and had it all replastered, I realise now that I should have "sealed" the plaster first before painting with bathroom paint. Now quite a bit of paint is pealing and blistering, I'm not much of a DIYer but want should I do now? Do I rub down the walls i.e. try to get as much…

Is a garage conversion worth it?
Hi, we're thinking of converting our garage to add additional space to our kitchen and living room. I'd be grateful to hear of anyone's experiences/thoughts on this. We're thinking of convereting half of our garage as we would like to leave some space at the front for storage, it wouldn't fit a car but who uses a garage…

Take up floor boards, fill in and concrete over?
Hi, I've moved recently and the house is terraced. In one of the downstairs rooms I can hear (and sometimes feel vibrations) when my next door neighbours walk across the adjoining room in their house. I'm not sure why this is - it seems maybe the joists might run through both houses. The room in question has wooden…

Best way to cut brick and stone
I have a brick chimney in my living room which is no longer used. I don't want to get ride of it, but, at the bottom, there is an extra half brick that protrudes forward, and the whole thing rests on a couple of stone slabs - they look like patio slabs. Is there a way I can cut or break the parts that stick out so that I…

Upgrading handset of a flats entry system
Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade just the phone handset part of a secure entry system? I'm not sure if the handset needs to be matched up to the actual buzzer part downstairs, or if you can just fit any handset to the line. The current handset is really old and I'd like to have a silent button on it. Cheers!
