Electric oven help

Options
Hi

My oven has stopped heating up from the bottom, does anyone have any idea that I could try to get it working again?

I'm getting no heat from the bottom at all. It's a cheapy MFI one if that helps at all.

I don't expect there is anything I can do but I thought I'd ask here before replacing it.

Thanks

    Hiya, :)

The folks on the In My Home board are the best ones to ask on this one, so I'll move your post across.

    Good luck :)

  • Sounds as if the element has gone A resistance check with a test meter would reveal whether or not it is working. Or it could be thermal cut-out

Does your oven have a knob or button where it can be put on to automatic or manual?

Even if you have never knowingly used it, we get several people every month who accidentally alter it when they wipe over their cookers.

When I explain it some people are really nice and appreciate getting FREE advice over the phone. Sadly I have also had people yelling at me "Do you think I'm stupid or something? I KNOW my own cooker".   Okay .... get on with it!:p They are quite red-faced when DH calls and they have to pay!!

There's a couple nearby who rang in a panic late one night because their cooker wouldn't heat and they were having a big party soon. DH suggested what it was (because he knows their cooker) and they assured him they had checked this a hundred times! He told them a couple of other things to try and they are so big-headed they kept saying we've done all that too but they would try again. Remember this is FREE advice LATE AT NIGHT!!  We heard nothing for days and then I bumped into him and he said "Oh the cooker has fixed itself so there's no need for a call out!" I asked whether it had been the timer button and he went scarlet and said "No definitely not!". Why can't people just be gracious enough to admit we all make mistakes sometimes AND to say thank you for not charging them anything!
