I used salt on the weeds that appeared between the flags in my back yard and it worked a treat.
I just poured it on and left it, they died off after a couple of days.

Yes I second the salt treatment. I use it on my own drive in the autumn & winter months & only use the proprietry killer during the very active weed growing spring/summer months as I find it does keep them at bay for longer than the salt does during this period.

You can also dilute the salt in water if there are a lot of weeds, such as does occur on my badly cowboy laid drive, then squirt the mixture between the cracks in the bricks using an old washing up liquid bottle or similar.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I think brine acts mainly on the roots rather than being a contact killer like Roundup. Therefore one should be careful when applying brine or salt near to borders as it may effect border plants if their roots are near to or under the drive.
