Hi, I was thinking about fitting bath/shower mixer taps in our bathroom (supply = hot water cylinder on landing/cold water tank in loft), and taking the water supply off the tap pipes, as I'm doing our bathroom on a tight budget precluding expensive showers. However, reading into it, I can see a problem if the cold water…

We need a new carpet for our hall, stairs and landing (it's in a bit of a state), and don't know where to look for one other than the usual - Carpetright and Allied. We have found one local place who are quite limited in what they can supply, but I am a little put off by the reputations of the national retailers. Any ideas…

We've moved to a detached house, it was done up after been empty for years. There's a kind of damp smell (sometimes like cheap paint) from under the floorboards. We know there seems to be a lot of old plaster under the boards, would getting the boards up and removing all the rubble reduce the smell? The ventilation is…

Broken toilet chain!!!
Our downstairs toilet is the old fashioned kind with the high cistern on the wall and a long chain. The chain has always been awkward to pull and would need about 2 or 3 pulls before it would flush, but tonight it came off in my son's hand when he tried to flush the toilet. Is it easy/possible to replace a toilet chain?

Due to lack of space and to financial constraints, we are looking at buying a used conservatory off Ebay. We notice that some conservatories are advertised…
