Hi
We're wanting to lay some wood flooring on top of our existing chipboard.
Thinking about reclaimed stuff, but does anyone know whether it would withstand labradors and a mad cat running about?
Would we be best using real wood, or engineered woord, or even lamintae.
Is it better oiling it rather than sanding?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi There,
I have a mid priced laminate all through my house, I also have an old labrador with extremely long claws and a cat with deformed feet and 27 claws AND 3 lunatic kids. My laminate still looks as good as new after 12months. Is also easier to clean than carpet and muddy paw prints just wipe away.:j0 -
i've got quick step which is pretty pricey but hasnt scratched so far - I have 2 lunatic cats!!0

our cats disregard the wodden floors but love to pull at the carpet! You should be fine.0

I worked at B&Q for some time and the real wood flooring displays were extremely scratched within weeks of arriving whereas the laminate displays always remained unmarked!
To further add strength to this, I have fitted a budget range laminate several months ago and it is still unmarked.
If you have pets I would certainly go for laminate.Good luck0 -
Hi Shona,
I have a real wood floor and have a large old rottweiler. Only scratches on the floor are ones I have made by dragging my table around, oops! so think it would be a safe bet.0 -
Yes, our laminate is fine. we have labrador. Like green ninja the only scratches are from me dragging the chair out to clean behind. those weeny stones get everywhere.Just to win anything would be great!!0

We've got laminate now with a dog and 2 cats and it's fine.
We had a real wood floor in our last house which was also fine as long as you use a really tough varnish on it.0 -
Our laminate is scratch free, but our retriever does slip on it most days!0

Laminate flooring - 2 cats - no problems apart from skidding cats when they chase each other......
The only things that have damaged my laminate have been my ofice chair - it is on castors and scratches like hell!
Puss
