Getting rid of ivy for good
I have a major ivy and bramble problem which I am really struggling with. I didn't want to use any chemicals but I think I probably need to. I wandered to an area of our plot that I hadn't looked at for a while and it is completely overrun with ivy. This is incredibly frustrating as I spent a couple of days at the end of…

Fruit in containers?
I have acquired a large planter, about 1 foot diameter, 1 foot deep. I haven't got anything earmarked for it so I wondered about a fruit tree. I've done a bit of reading and narrowed choices down to cherry, apple or fig. I have a greenhouse so can bring a fig in over winter. Just my reading seems to say cherry should be in…

Poundland shrubs 50p
Poundland shrubs are now scanning at 50p. They are in card tubes in the gardening section: hypericum, buddleia, forsythia, philadelphus They also have fruit: gooseberry, raspberry, blackberry and various roses. Check for signs of life. They are often kept dark and dry. But excellent value. There are also some perennials in…

White Tomato Leaves
I transferred my tomato plants from indoors and into the greenhouse at the weekend and found yesterday the leaves edges have turned white-ish. A quick Google suggested it would be the strong sunlight that is the cause after the transfer, and will be putting up some shade later. Has anybody had the same experience, and if…

Lowering concrete garden / parking spce
Hi, I live in a ground floor flat with a share of the freehold. I have a small patio and then a raised parking space (around 4ft higher). I would like to excavate the parking space to increase the size of the patio. Can anyone give advise on if I need planning permission to do this? Flat is in SW London. Many thanks, Fred.

Is this saveable?
Is there a way to save this lawn? It's been neglected I'm afraid and the weeds I have pulled up have just left holes in the ground. Need to try and kick start grass somehow. Have considered returning but it will be a while before that's possible. https://m.imgur.com/fuvhYOP https://m.imgur.com/PO5KCrJ Blast it with weed…

Seeds which will be OK if I'm away for a month.
Hi all, I'm a longtime user but just in case anyone knows who I am, and where I live, I'm posting under a new name. I will be away from end of July until almost end of August, with only a couple of days home in the middle. I'm in the south east and won't have anyone able to access my garden to water anything. I'd love to…

Can anyone recommend pulley system to water tomato hanging basket?
I have bought a hanging basket tomato plant to try out this year. I need a pulley system to water it as it will be hanging from a metal bracket around 7 feet in the air and I am short. I have looked on Amazon and the pulleys there for hanging baskets are mostly for flowering plants, not plants covered with tomatoes. Plus…

Veg in the front garden
Hi I'm a regular elsewhere on this site, but not ventured on to this board before, so apologies if this is either a daft idea or already been discussed at length. I'd like to grow veg and/or fruit in my front garden. I have no back garden at all, and not a very big front garden. It wraps round the side of my…

Seeding a new lawn
Afternoon everyone Since purchasing my first home in 2017, I have seriously neglected the garden to the extent that the lawn is bare, compacted and patchy with moss. Advice on pruning Red Robin (now with pics at #4)
I have few red robins stretched along a south east facing shed wall. Just North of London. Unfortunately they haven't been pruned in a few years and now need some drastic action!
