Wayleave Payments - Barlow & Sons
Last week a company called Barlow & Sons approached me as I have a couple of electricity polls over my land. They have told me I should be entitled to something called a Wayleave payment from National Grid for siting electricity equipment on my land backdated 6 years and I could ask for a 15 year in advance lump sum or an…

Complaints procedure
I currently have an internal complaint with Scottish Power open. If they don't agree with me and it goes to the ombudsman then can they (or will they) continue to pursue a disputed bill through the courts or put a default on a credit file or does everything go "on hold". Thanks

Electric oil heater or single room gas heater?
I have a gas pipe to my living room, I had the fireplace removed because it was a disgusting joke but I've taken to heating the room with an oil based electric heater. It does the job but it's really quite expensive. I can't afford to go the whole hog and get central heating but I was wondering if it would be worth getting…

Should I attempt switch while "system issue" on my account?
In December I moved into a rented all-electric flat (night storage heaters) supplied by Scottish Power. On contacting them I was told I was on their standard tariff. I replied asking whether it was Economy 7 (I realise it almost certainly is but wanted official confirmation before initiating a switch). Never got a reply to…

Emergency Gas Call-Out Cost?
Hi, I've had to call the Emergency Gas line as I smelt gas by our meter. Does anyone know what the call-out charge will be (if any)? I know it has to be done just will need to do some juggling if it is an expensive charge. Thanks

eTRV From Chalmor are they all that?
Hi All, First time post, I was wondering if anybody had any experience with fitting these retrofit TRV replacements. I have read through an instruction manual and the principle for savings makes sense. I was wondering if anyone had these installed that could offer experience. I want to have something set up for the next…

Co-Op Energy bungle - credit repayment / lost electric meter reading
I am having problems with Co-Op Energy returning an account credit to me. At the beginning of February I switched from them to Sainsburys Energy. The account was in credit, but Co-Op Energy claimed that they hadn't received the final electric meter reading from Sainsburys which would trigger repayment of the credit amount.…

Nice present from NPower!
I have received a nice letter in the post from NPower today! basically it says that when I signed up in the past to Price Fix Sept 2016 I was promised a £60 credit. They say it should have come off my first bill of the new tariff, but it didn't. So, to prevent further delay, I can pick up the £60 in cash from any Post…

Immediately Dangerous and gas switched off
House has been bought and asked supplier to change meter from prepayment to credit meter. Utility company came and switched it off (Capped at mains) as it was found to be Immediately Dangerous. 2 gas fires were not in a safe state (coals missing and tiles broken). The gas hob was removed and not capped off. This caused a…

Default First Utility - awful customer service
Was with these guys until beginning of June last year. Paid my variable DD end May (clearing the a/c in full) & awaited a final bill for 2 days usage when my a/c transferred to Ovo. A bill duly arrived for £56.60 :0( !! I obviously disputed this. All I can say is it has been 10 months of pain !! Eventually, after…

Worcester Bosch Greenstar Junior 28i Flashing Green Light - Can't Control Heat
Hi all We have a WB Greenstar Junior 28i and I noticed the heating wasn't coming on but the hot water worked. I looked at the panel on the boiler and on thee left hand side the Heating was set to 'off', where usually it is on 'timed'. How close to the end of a fixed term can i switch without penalty?
This should read how EARLY can I switch - sorry! I am sure that in one of the MSE newsletters I got there was a comment about most of us not knowing that we could switch energy suppliers BEFORE the end of the fixed term without having to pay a penalty, but I can't find this fact listed anywhere on the MSE website. Can…

Ovo Smart Meters
Hi all, Received a call out of the blue yesterday from OVO asking if they can book an appointment to upgrade my gas and elec meter's to their smart type. It will send them the readings every month (all the time) and I get an in-house monitor to track usage. I have asked them to send me the details to read before…

Pick me up off the floor, is this bill right?!
I've edited this post to clarify that this is just the gas bill, not gas and electricity I'm hoping there is an error somewhere! We are with E'on and have just received our second bill based on them doing a reading, the first was based on their estimation They estimated we would use 327 units up until January. We have just…

The energy confusopoly

High KW appliances and energy efficiency
If you buy an appliance say an oven, fridge or air conditioner that is around 4.7kw would I be right in thinking this could set you back around 50p per hour? If that is correct what difference would energy efficiency make to that 50p. If an appliance is sold as being A or A+ what does that actually mean in the real world…

Needed to rant: Terrible customer services from Co-op
Just had to let off some steam about the stress I've had with the co-op today. They've had major systems issues the past few days / weeks and my mum, who doesn't speak much English at all, had to call up and discuss her account. After an hour and a half bouncing between triage departments and the "Your call is important to…
