Nice present from NPower!

Options
I have received a nice letter in the post from NPower today!

basically it says that when I signed up in the past to Price Fix Sept 2016 I was promised a £60 credit.

They say it should have come off my first bill of the new tariff, but it didn't.

So, to prevent further delay, I can pick up the £60 in cash from any Post Office when I produce my letter and ID.

To be honest, I cannot remember this £60 promise, and hadn't therefore missed it. So to get £60 cash in hand, thank you very much NPower!

(I know it's money I should have already received off my bill and didn't get because of a screwup, but it's still a nice feeling!)

That sounds strange to me, why didn't they just credit your account with £60 or send you a cheque?

    Have you checked with Npower?

    Hmmm...

That tariff was actually launched in May 2013, so what you are saying is despite a promise you would be given £60 off your first bill, only 2 years later they have discovered they reneged on this promise and so are giving you the £60 today.

Can I borrow £60 off you for 2 years interest free?

Also interesting to note that the tariff was set so that "for the average customer annual charges will be £30 per fuel higher than npower's standard tariff prices as at 10th May 2013" and they are not particularly competitive today, particularly for gas.
Fortunately there are no early exit charges.

I would urge you to consult a comparison site and find the best deal for you - that may involve separate suppliers.
A average user could well save a lot more than another £60 in the next year alone.

Edit: Even nPower themselves could probably offer you a much better tariff today. Surprsied they didn't include this in their communication to you

Letters dated 1st April by any chance?

The Npower reps visit these boards occasionally, maybe they can throw some light on the situation.

I haven't been on this tariff for some time, have moved to the much cheaper price fix May 2016. The letter states that you are still entitled to the money even if you have changed tariff or even supplier.

Its legit. Unless it's some big scam involving some shyster posing as NPower who are in cahoots with the entire Post Office Network to steal my ID and identity.......

    Hi Cardew,

    Thanks for your post.

During 2013, we issued automatic credits to some of our customers as part of three telesales and service campaigns. Post RMR (Retail Market Review), cash discounts as incentives are no longer compliant within the industry therefore npower ceased sales on campaigns that included bill credit on 16 December 2013.

These credits were supposed to be applied to the customer's first bill but we've since identified a number of customers did not receive this.

We're currently identifying and contacting customers who didn't receive their credit to issue this to them in the form of a Post Office voucher.

Customers will need to take the letter along with 2 pieces of identification to the Post Office to collect their payment.

I hope this helps clear this matter up.

    Regards

    Jess :)

I took the letter and ID to the post office. It is legit although NPower had made an error by not including a barcode to scan as clarification. This mistake was confirmed when I rang NPower to check, who will be re-sending this batch of letters.

If anyone else has a letter without barcode, you'll save yourself a journey by waiting for the reissued mailing.

Perhaps, and this is just a guess, to help those without a bank account get the payment without suffering further charges.
