Credit rating
A friend of mine, on my recommendation, used the MSE energy club to switch supplier from Scottish Power to Eon. Late in the process Eon informed him that he needed to pay £400 to have a pre-payment meter installed because of his credit rating. He currently pays monthly by budget payments on a credit meter and is owed about…

When to start switch
I'm on a Scottish Power Jan 2015 fix that finishes at the end of December. When should I initiate a switch through the Cheap Energy Club? I know it can take 6 weeks to switch, and I don't want to end up on Scottish Powers' standard rate, but also don't want to pay £60 exit fees! Any ideas? Is there an option to specify…

Scottish Power
I sold my house in March this year. On the day of the sale I phoned in the meter reading and told Scottish Power to close the account. The new owner moved in the same day and arranged change of address with their own supplier. Scottish Power advised they had closed the account and they paid me the outstanding credit…

working out running costs of an electric stove
I am not very good at maths & am looking for a wee bit of help please. I have bought this electric stove for my sitting room: http://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/home-comforts-large-log-effect-stove-fire-cream-293741 I had an old gas fire removed, but it was too difficult to remove the hearth, so I bought this fire to make…

Gas, key to 'normal'
Guys, I am buying a property which I discovered has a key system for the gas, one of those red/orange things. As I understand it this is a very costly way to pay for your gas. As we will own the property I assume we can change this, does anyone know the costs of doing so? Would the gas company do it for free, since they'd…

British Gas Insulation Eligibility
Hi, I've read the threads on here but I'm not quite sure if my house qualifies. It's older than 1982 (1960 / 70's Ex Council) but it does have a small amount of loft insulation in it already. At a guess it's about 5 - 10mm and looks like it's been sprayed on rather than the rolled up stuff. The cavity walls (As far as…

Scottish power - Estimated bills and appalling customer service
I moved into my property in January this year and the supply was with Scottish power, I called them to try and set up my account and discuss tariffs with them, however when I called I was told my property was on prepay meters (which it wasn't) and it would be £100 per fuel to switch! Obviously I was having none of that and…

Help with utility bills?
Hi, I currently live at home, and am looking to move out but I have no idea how much anything would cost, i.e. gas, electric, water. I would be living in a 1 bedroom flat so just asking if any of you have any advice, or if you know roughly how much it would cost? Thanks x

Heating a bedroom. Convector Heater vs Radiator (boiler)
I have this heater in my bedroom: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4152181.htm I choose to use it instead of the plumbed in radiator powered by my Main Combi 25 eco lite boiler. I am with British Gas, dual fuel. What is the most economic option?

British Gas Boiler Maintenance Contract
Has anyone ever called BG to get their contract price reduced and been successful? I started paying BG about £12 a month around 4 or 5 years ago and I am now paying £20 a month. It's a lot of money, for "insurance" really because I don't call them from one year to the next.

Thinking about switching
My current Dual Fuel Fixed contract finishes at the end of November 2014, I have found what appears to be better offers from another supplier. My concern is that I am £564.00 in credit with my current supplier, if I switch with that be paid back to me or will it be passed onto the new supplier.

GCH temprature control question
Hi I have a vaillant ecotec boiler ( I think its a condensing boiler though not sure) and I wanted to know about the following 2 scenarios... scenario 1 if I turn on the gas central heating by raising the temp control so the heating comes on, then after an hour I turn the temp control down to zero so the heating goes off,…

Warm Home Discount and Switching
Hi Does anyone know if I will miss out on the Warm Home discount if I switch suppliers? I'm currently with First Utility and they say the discount will be applied between Jan and March but what happens if I switch now to Eon? I do qualify for the Warm Home discount. Thanks Em
