GCH temprature control question

Hi
I have a vaillant ecotec boiler ( I think its a condensing boiler though not sure) and I wanted to know about the following 2 scenarios...
scenario 1
if I turn on the gas central heating by raising the temp control so the heating comes on, then after an hour I turn the temp control down to zero so the heating goes off, does the boiler shut off completely thus no hot water is being pumped and the radiators instantly start cooling down?
vs.
scenario 2
if I turn on the gas central heating by raising the temp control so the heating comes on, then lets say after an hour the house reaches the temp I've set it at, does the boiler completely shut off thus cooling the radiator's down or does the pump still continue in pumping the hot water round the radiators as the temp control in this scenario hasn't been turned down ?
basically Im trying to figure out if I should turn the temp off when I feel the house is warm enough or leave it at a set temp so the boiler turns off but carries on using the hot water to keep the radiators warm? (I know its not an on off switch but temp control but trying to see which scenario is more cost effective ...)
hope my question makes sense.

What temperature control are you referring to - the room thermostat or the temperature control on the boiler.
Most heating systems should have a thermostat on the wall and another on the tank unless you don't have a tank in which case you've probably got a combi boiler.
The room stat or tank stat will signal the boiler & pump to run when there is a demand for either heating or hot water.
When the set temperature has been reached the boiler & pump will shut down (there might be a delay of a few minutes as the boiler gets rid of it's residual heat).
There is usually a timer or programmer to allow you to set the times that you want heating or hot water although a programmable thermostat can combine both functions.
There is no need to keep winding the room thermostat up and down - once it's set at the temperature that you require it will turn the boiler & pump on and off as required
Adjusting the temperature control on the boiler itself won't affect the pump it will just make the heating water hotter or cooler.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
