British Gas Insulation Eligibility

Hi,

I've read the threads on here but I'm not quite sure if my house qualifies.

It's older than 1982 (1960 / 70's Ex Council) but it does have a small amount of loft insulation in it already. At a guess it's about 5 - 10mm and looks like it's been sprayed on rather than the rolled up stuff.

The cavity walls (As far as we're Aware) have never been done.

Would be still qualify?

Everyone can qualify for the loft and cavity wall insulation.

Just google, British Gas Loft and Cavity wall insulation and the top link will take you right where you need to be.
  • Hi DalePie,

Not all properties are suitable for cavity wall or loft insulation.

You usually won't qualify if you live in a flat and can't co-ordinate with all other tenants, your home is timber or metal-framed, or made from natural stone or concrete, or you've damp problems.

The quickest way to find out is by giving British Gas a call on 0800 294 9126 and you'll be asked a set of questions to find out,

Let us know how you get on,

    Rebecca
  • Sorry to jump in here,

Is there any free insulation available for hard-to-treat properties..?

Our house has a mix of brick cavity, tile hanging and plastic cladding..! I did the loft myself so it's fine but the walls are a problem.

    Thanks.
  • British Gas have also told me that Listed properties do not qualify :/
  • Anyone living in Post Code areas AB, PH or IV are not eligible for free survey from British Gas. (Half of Scotland)
Apparently they cannot recruit suitably qualified assessors.

Anybody else from the above Post Codes tried

Nice to see MSE keeping to the agenda of only supporting big businesses.

Free loft or cavity wall insulation paid for by the ECO grant can be installed by any Green Deal Installer that is approved to install those measures.

  • In fairness to MSE my understanding is the BG were the 1st of 2 (Scottish Power the other?) to do this but I have only seen BG backing with with publicity as I have seen a tv ad and online ads.

That said, I understand now all energy companies now do it as I had a knock on the door by the mark group who told me so and they said they were working with the energy industry because they all now offer?

On the subject of eligibility for the BG deal - what if you already have loft insulation but not cavity wall insulation or vice versa?

Do you have to be without both to qualify for the deal - i'm guessing so but does anyone know?

No you do not need to be with out both. If the EPC recommends Cavity wall you can get cavity wall insulated fitted through the eco grant. Also you do not need to go to british gas you can go to any green deal installer that offers it.
