I haven't changed any habits, have gas and electricity prices really doubled in the last six months?

No. I think we need a bit more information to go on.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You haven't been submitting regular meter reads and are now paying off a catch-up bill.0 -
My guess is based on limited information.
You haven't been submitting regular meter reads and are now paying off a catch-up bill.
Yeah, sorry for the rubbish OP, just came as a shock, I'm not used to keeping up with bills, it's one of those things that I just let happen.
Just been checking my old statements and it seems their estimates have been off, massively so for one of them, so now I am paying to make up for it. I haven't looked at the numbers in detail but I think that is the problem.
Is 800-900 kwh a lot for electricity? One of my "estimates" only gave me 400 for some strange reason, are British Gas usually so poor at this?0 -
Why should their guess be any better than anyone else's, they are no more clairvoyant than anyone else - the meter is in your house so you can read it and check whether their guesses are correct or not.
You get a bill, read the meter to see if it's correct, if it isn't you phone BG and get it corrected.
It's easy, it's simple and you then get correct bills, no guesses and therefore no under or overpayments.
If you don't put a bit of effort in you get wrong bills and suffer the consequences.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

Why do you think I was able to guess correctly with so little information to go on.:D
