Check your home insurance doesn't already cover it. Some policies include emergency boiler, electric and plumbing call outs.0

Possibly, but there is still the cost of an annual servicing. Personally, I avoid the big boys and I use a local firm that offers boiler servicing and emergency cover. When we had a leak from the CH pump during last year's Christmas shutdown, an engineer came out the same day that the problem was called in, made a temporary repair and came back the following week to fit a replacement valve. He also topped up the radiators with inhibitor. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi,
We've got an article on the site all about boiler cover, including some of the companies we think are best. You can find it here - let us know how you get on.0 -

Having looked at your article, I am not sure that I would use the word best. What criteria are you using to select these companies? Insurers are very dependent on the quality of the contractor/s they use to do the work. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hi Hengus,
We look at lots of things when writing about companies and they're not just picked on price.
This includes things such as customer feedback, reliability and what our readers think. If you have a different opinion please let us know.
Thanks,

Hi Rebecca,
The quote below from your article is a 'show-stopper' for many people.Older boilers may not be insurable. Most plans require a boiler to be below a certain age, usually seven years-old, when the cover is bought. Others will request a boiler inspection before granting cover. If yours is old, you may want to consider the cost of buying a new boiler.
Even if you do get cover, your boiler may be excluded from being replaced if it goes totally kaput. You could also find your old boiler system doesn't meet the standards requested by your insurance provider, in which case you'll probably have to pay extra to get your heating system revamped before being offered cover.
It is hardly 'money saving' for someone to have to consider a new boiler when theirs is 7 years old simply to get 'breakdown insurance' - which is the major reason for obtaining cover.0 -
FWiW, I was with Domestic and General and I found them to be a very efficient company. However, they changed contractors almost every year and we had one particularly poor chap who did little more than polish the boiler casing. The contractor who came the following year was in a different league. The Company was local and they operated their own scheme slightly cheaper than D and G.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It can be hard to find an good boiler cover - either you pay too much (and find there's small print) or you pay less (and find that a boiler over X years isn't covered)! So it's best to try and get some quotes in and ask to see what they do / don't cover. I did this and it wasn't easy but I ended up with a fair boiler cover policy from stl heating. Like I say ringing around isn't fun but it's well worth it, esp. if you want good cover - so try some firms and go from there.0

See the Which article. 90% of people on boiler cover insurance contracts are better off paying for the repair when it arises. Save your money, self insure yourself, and find a friendly local boiler repair guy or girl.0

Have to agree.
Never had a service contract and never had a boiler problem in 20 years in 3 houses. Maybe just luck and tempting fate.
Keep your money in your pocket and always know a recommended boiler repair person.0
