increasing pressure gauge
So the pressure gauge on my boiler is almost below the green section. I have removed the cover but only see one black lever and one red knob (not a lever/handle) I'm not sure what I should be doing. In my last place it was simple.

Choosing supplier for first home
Hi Is there a comparison site or service that simply shows the cheapest tariffs around between all suppliers without having to enter usage history, that will help us decide what supplier to start with in a new home. We are moving into a new home and are first timer buyers so have no idea yet what our usage will be or what…

Bathroom (aka IgLOO) Heaters :p
My bathroom is an extension on the back of my two bedroom mid terraced house. The temperature of the house without heating at the moment is around 12 degrees which isn't bad - reaches 20 with heating on. Except for the bathroom - went down this morning and it's 2 degrees , put heating on and it only got to 7 after an…

Power Cuts
Is it right that the energy ombudsman has ruled that the power companies don't have to compensate consumers for damage caused by power cuts that are their fault, and you have to use your own contents insurance (hence losing your no claims discount)?

New flat - shd I stick with NPower Duel Fuel?
Hi, I am in a (relatively) new rented flat and the previous tenant was on NPower Duel Fuel. As I have no bills it's impossible to use the USwitch etc tools to assess if I'd be better off with a new supplier (correct me if I'm wrong!). I have gas central heating, and it's a 1-bed flat. With 12ft ceilings, aarrgh! I work…

Gas boiler on 24/24 and low or on timer switch?
Hi there I've got a combi boiler with the instant hot water thing. Having had it's problems (while under a BG homecare thingy), I'm wondering if it's cheaper, and better, to have a boiler on 24/24 and low or to have the timer set to come on and off when people are in the house more and less, respectively. I do have people…

HeatWise tariff, but no cable!
A friend moved into a flat three months ago. She took over the E.ON electricity account when they wrote to 'The Occupier'. £70/month direct debit. A little steep, but she had other things to sort out after moving in and expected to end in credit in due course. She got her first bill the other day, ~£200 so it had actually…

Fleeced by NPower?
NPower are currently charging me a larcenous standing charge for gas of 63 pence a day. This makes my standing charge £20 per month compared with actual gas consumption charge of only £4! As a low user it's clear that I need to switch to a far more favourable rate asap, but what I want to know is whether there are any…

Beat the British Gas energy hike?
From december 10th my gas and electric supplier British Gas are going to increase prices by 7% from dec 10th. I have got a sneaky idea on temporally beating this increase and wanted to know if anyone knows if it would work. If I was to enter my meter readings before the price hike and 'accidently' enter higher readings.…

Boiler control versus water temp in radiators
Which is the most fuel efficient: 1. Having the boiler control at at higher setting i.e. 4 out of 5 and having room thermostat set at say 18 degrees OR 2. Having the boiler control lower at 3 but setting the room thermostat at say 20 degrees? Or isn't there much difference? Don't quite understand how the relativity works.
