Gas boiler on 24/24 and low or on timer switch?

Hi there

I've got a combi boiler with the instant hot water thing.

Having had it's problems (while under a BG homecare thingy), I'm wondering if it's cheaper, and better, to have a boiler on 24/24 and low or to have the timer set to come on and off when people are in the house more and less, respectively.

I do have people in the house most days but they are able to wear jumpers and good underwear, if it gets too cold, without me being reported to help the aged.

Please advise if posssible?

Kind regards

Uncle Slacker

    Living and partly living.

I would just keep it comfortable for everybody.
It's one thing spending £500 heating myself,
but £500 to heat four people, it's a good deal.

Besides, with four body heat generators, you might even use LESS fuel compared to heating one person.

TBH during this very cold snap I don't want the house to go cold anyway (I'm at home all the time though as I can't get my car out of the drive!). At the moment I have the heating on 24/7 but I knock the thermostat down to 18 degrees overnight. As it is, the overflow on the boiler froze at the weekend and I had to get my friend to come over and get the boiler going again. It just isn't worth the hassle and potential expense of letting the house go cold (in my view).

The house will be warmer if it's on 24/7, but your gas bill will be much higher-how can it not be? Boiler on = using gas = higher bills.
    Entirely your choice.
