Beat the British Gas energy hike?

From december 10th my gas and electric supplier British Gas are going to increase prices by 7% from dec 10th.

I have got a sneaky idea on temporally beating this increase and wanted to know if anyone knows if it would work. If I was to enter my meter readings before the price hike and 'accidently' enter higher readings. Therefore getting charged for electricity I have not used yet at a cheaper rate. When I then next update the readings in a couple of months I will put in the correct readings and then would be charged for less gas/electric at the new higher rate.

Has anyone tried this before? Any ideas on how it could backfire on me? Is it worth it as I prob would only save a few quid?

I would be grateful for anyones opinons on this subject.
