Thermal linings and convection loop
About 18 months ago we decided to line our curtains with blackout thermal lining to slow down heat loss from our double glazed windows. The floor to ceiling curtains seem really effective but the ones hanging to the upside of the rads may just be creating a convection loop, the air cooled by the windows falling and being…

How long for a final bill?
I switched my elec from EDF about 3 weeks ago. I've calculated there should be around £25 credit on the account once the bill has been paid. The automated service is still saying that I've got £40 credit, so obviously no bill generated yet. How long should they take to generate the bill and repay the credit? In the past,…

Howling hot water tank!
 My hot water tank is making a 'howling' noise every so often. The system is less than 3 years old and is powered bu a gloworm 12hxi boiler. The noise is only when the heating is on...not when the water is on. The boiler is set to max (the 'radiator' symbol) and the tank is set to 60c. I must confess that i don't know…

Storage heater question.
Just wanted some advice. e're in a two bed flat with two storage heaters - one in the living room and the other in the hall way and none in the bedrooms. I like the principle of them, heat up over night and release heat through day - except that by evening time there is very little heat left in the things and I have to use…

Meter readings on switchover
When you switch from one supplier to another, who is meant to inform who about meter readings? I have switched from EOn to EDF and am having a bit of trouble. I had a letter from EDF asking me to call them up with readings. I did this ages ago, and my gas account is now all set up properly, but my Electric one isn't sorted…

Switching energy provider and cancellation charges
We're currently on a tariff with British Gas which charges a cancellation charge if we leave before the 31st of December. After doing a price comparison on various websites, I've found that there are quite a few cheaper tariffs, including one by the same provider. As it takes around a month or longer for transfers to go…

EDF strike again...payment demand
Soon after moving into a new house I changed suppliers away from EDF, which was in Feb 2008. At the time, I gave the gas reading and was sent a final bill which I paid. This week, I have been sent a revised bill for the period 28th Jan 2008 to 19 Feb 2008 saying I have an outstanding gas bill. Any thoughts on this please?
