Heatsaver radiator panels?

Hi There,

Sorry if there have been similar posts before, I have searched but the search facility just doesn't seem to want to work for me!

I was wondering if anyone had tried these or similar, and whether you think they made a difference?

Or any sort of thing that is supposed to reflect the heat back into the room.

Many Thanks!!!

  • A suggestion. Get some aluminium foil and a piece of stiff cardboard.

Wrap aluminium foil round piece of stiff cardboard and place behind radiator.

Monitor gas usage and work out how much gas you have saved.

If you have saved more than £60 in a year remove aluminium wrapped stiff cardboard and replace with Heatsaver Radiator Panels at a cost of £60.

Monitor gas usage for a further year.

If you have save another £60 on your gas bill you have just wasted £60.

Do you honestly think that spending £60 on Heatsaver Radiator Panels is going to save you a significant amount of money on your gas bills?

I used to work in a supermarket that had radiators in a corridor. The radiators had aluminium foil panels behind them.

On the other side of the wall with a radiator was a large cupboard. The cupboard was always nice and warm because the wall that the radiator was on was nice and warm. And the radiator was on the other side of the wall.

So the foil may have reflected some heat away from the wall but once the foil heated up it transferred the heat to the wall and the other side of the wall got warm.

If it worked the foil would not get warm. The foil would be cold if it reflected heat back.

You would be better off fixing a magnet to the gas pipe to line up the atoms of the gas so that they burn in an orderly manner.

In fact I have a rare earth magnet that I could sell you for £30. It could save you up to £100 a year in gas.

You can buy a great big roll of aluminised bubble wrap from your local DIY store to stick behind your radiators.
Don't expect to save much if anything. Radiators give out most of their heat by convection rather than radiation.

You can even buy a box with a fan in it to stick on top of the radiator to suck more heat/dust out of it, as seen on Dragons Den where it was given short shrift!
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I bought a roll of this from Wickes - and put it behind a few radiators. How much effect it has is pretty difficult to say, but can't do any harm.
