Switch sites not what they seem
I've looked at a number of sites and they all seem to do the same results that seem weighted towards the big suppliers, BG,Npower etc. I was with swalec but switched to Npower after a man at the front door promised rebate after rebate. I didnt check the unit price before switching(which was about twice that for swalec).…

Electric bill yet i have an Electric prepay meter :S
Just been hit with a £148.78 bill from Scottish Hydro Electric for 23 june 2006 to 21 November 2006 not bad quite cheap for the dates but we have an Electric Keycard meter of which we pay in at least £20 a week :S Which makes no sense why we're getting this bill. They've charged us for 5591.05kWh at 2.260p to a total of…

Please could anyone tell me if it is cheaper to heat the water by electricity ( I am with Scottish Hydro) of Calor Gas, we have no mains gas on the island so those are the only 2 options. Both have timers and can be set for very defined times. In anticipation many thanks Annscullamus

They informed me that I was entitled to an annual service on my boiler free of charge. Fantastic. i called them and they gave me a…

Problems with Energyhelpline and USwitch... (or is it just me?!)
Following Martin's advice I've just been into the two recommended sites for a comparison. Energyhelpline would let me compare gas only – great as I'm with Good Energy and don't want to switch my leccy – but when I clicked through it said I could only switch to British Gas through them as all the other companies weren't…

House.co.uk stupidity
I use BG click energy and the idea is that I can submit my own meter readings. However, the software on the site won't normally accept the true readings so I have to spend 5 minutes trying numbers until I find a value that it will accept. When I started my true meter readings were less than the initial estimates so I put…

Really pleased with EBICO
I got my first bill from Ebico at the beginning of November and was really pleased because although it was estimated, it was only a bit over (worked out about £30 in total), which I thought isn't a bad thing going into the winter. It was so simple and easy to follow - no stupid two tier system! I just wrote out a cheque…

My Prepayment Meters
I inherited a gas and electric prepayment meter when I moved into my apartment seven years ago. I have found out that the fuel costs to me are: Gas: 10.42p per day standing charge 2.24p per kilowatthour Electric: £1.37 per week standing charge 9.06p per unit I have been told prepayment is perhaps not the best deal and was…

Insulation grants - worth phoning all companies offering them?
or will they all just use the same sub contractor? I've got B Gas coming out, on a waiting list for Scottish Power and was about to phone the rest of the list on the https://www.est.co.uk site. But we are in a relatively small Scottish town - maybe they will all just subcontract all their business to a local company? or do…

Working out gas cost
I know this sounds totally thick, but is there any easier way of working out kilowatt hours for gas other than the long complicated sum on the back of the bill? Thanks.

Electricity reconnection question
I own a small workshop which was rented out until July when the tenant went into liquidation. He and the liquidator assured me that the electricity meter had been read and bills sorted. I informed the supplier, British Gas Business by email that the tenant had moved and that the premises were now empty and handed the keys…

Money saving tip or strictly fraudulent? Opinions please
I searched the forums but apologies if this has been discussed before. I've just moved to British Gas (their Click tariff) for my electricity. The tariff has no standing charge but two 'tiers'. Basically, you pay 18.9p/unit for the first 225 units and 8.9p/unit for the remaining units...so a big difference. Obviously it…

If I switch from Powergen will I have to pay £600 arrears immediately
Hi, hope you can a first time poster who's been lurking for some time... Last winter we had a massive electricity bill - they reckoned it was £600 for three months - I'm still not sure whether it was due to them reading the metre wrong when we moved in or because we have old storage heaters that gobble energy... Anyway -…

Powergen error but won't backdate discount etc
I switched gas & elec to Powergen in April. As we had a balance with NPower we kept a monthly direct debit to them to clear the balance. When looking into how much we still owed NPower I discovered that the gas transfer hadn't gone ahead and NPower were still supplying us. I queried this with Powergen who said the gas…
